Visible Monday: French Fry, Candy Night

Visible Monday: French Fry, Candy Night

French Fry, Candy Night 2011 has come and gone….

Sunday, we gathered the family together for our holiday tradition of eating as much junk food as possible in the town of Sonoma.

While getting ready for our fun family tradition, Tori offered to experiment on my hair with her new curling wand. She generously spent over an hour twisting and twirling my long mane into Taylor Swift-style locks.

She created lots and lots of tight curls; a look I’m not used to, but soon grew to like.

For the event, I wore another recent consignment purchase: an H & M fur collared jacket for $22.00, Kasil bootcut jeans purchased in 2006, long sleeved black H & M t-shirt, black ballet flats and Kate Spade leopard print bag.

Here are a few favorite photos from our afternoon and evening in Sonoma.

Your tradition of a junk food feast sounds so fun! Have a terrific Christmas, Fifi

  2. December 12, 2011 / 2:52 am

you all looked like you had a great night. The kids are beautiful and happy. Perhaps the diet of the night made them super joyful?

  3. December 12, 2011 / 3:02 am

The curls look good on you!! You look sassy and hot!!

  4. December 12, 2011 / 4:02 am

What a great night. Fun! Fun! I like that jacket.

  5. December 12, 2011 / 5:19 am

I know I repeat myself, but that Tori is amazing. Is she ever a grumpy teenager? Your junk food night tradition is great, and you all look like you had so much fun.
And I think your hair looks great, particularly from the back – maybe less tight curls in the front next time?

  6. December 12, 2011 / 5:26 am

Your hair looks very pretty…Tori did a great job. Great outfit…you look lovely & chic, but most of all, it’s wonderful to see your family having fun & spending time together. Thanks for sharing.

  7. December 12, 2011 / 5:26 am

very happy and warm family pictures, my sons and hubby would be delighted if I start a junk food night tradition. But I have to agree, junk food does make one very happy.

You look fabulous as always, I like the classy and elegant jacket, great buy! I love the curls too, very pretty!

  8. December 12, 2011 / 5:41 am

Awww looks like a great time! Your hair looks great with all the curls!

  9. December 12, 2011 / 6:41 am

That day looks like a lot of fun. You looked great with that jacket. I noticed that you weren’t on my 40+ community page yet, so I have added you.

  10. December 12, 2011 / 6:41 am

What a gorgeous family! Thanks so much for sharing this special family night. It does look like everyone had a wonderful time. And your hair looks so pretty all curled like that.

  11. December 12, 2011 / 6:57 am

Oh, I love your curls! Your hair is so gorgeous, any way you style it. And I so enjoy the pics of your family on french fry night – what big fun you’re all having! Thanks so much for linking up to Visible Monday : >

  12. December 12, 2011 / 7:29 am

I thought this sounded like such a fun tradition! You all look gorgeous as always! And those curls look like they had some bounce. (with my thick hair, tight curls like that make me look like a poodle.

  13. December 12, 2011 / 7:33 am

What a fun night!!! YOur family is just lovely!

I do love those curls (maybe you could send your sweet hairstylist to SC for a special assignment???)

BTW, you have convinced to start checking out the thrift stores for clothing. I usually just look for household/craft inspiration and pass right by the clothing…YOUR finds are terrific!!!

  14. December 12, 2011 / 8:08 am

You look fabulous in curls and that tradition of junk food makes me want to order some fries !
I like that thrifted jacket too.

  15. December 12, 2011 / 8:48 am

What a great picture album of a beautiful weekend:)
    LOVE that sweater/cardi w fur trim…total score.
    And your hair looks gorgeous!
Definitely following along…over from Monday Mingle again.

  16. December 12, 2011 / 9:26 am

Looks like you had a fun night…what a gorgeous family you make! In the last photo of the kids I can really see that Ryan resembles his dad.

Love your jacket and your new hairstyle. 🙂

  17. December 12, 2011 / 10:29 am

Gorgeous! Outfit to curls you looked great! What a fabulous time you had! The Fairmont lobby must be stunning this time of year!! Hapy Monday..xo HHL

  18. December 12, 2011 / 12:25 pm

Love the curls on you and that jacket is gorgeous! Looks like a very fun time!

  19. December 12, 2011 / 3:40 pm

While the food looks a little tempting, I’m much more tempted by your jacket. What a great cut on you, especially the collar!

What would it take for the kids to bribe you with sugar-free candy money? Would you stick cilantro in your teeth or your hair?

  20. December 12, 2011 / 5:02 pm

@Fifi BThanks Fifi! I hope you are having a lovely holiday season. Nice to hear from you. xo

  21. December 12, 2011 / 5:04 pm

@mummaduckaMaybe it was the diet of junk and more junk. Whatever it was, the kids were all on their best behavior – not a single argument between them. We were all in a festive mood and had no obligations yesterday, for a change. It made for a relaxing and enjoyable evening – but I am dog tired today!

  22. December 12, 2011 / 5:05 pm

@beingFab Thank you! I like the curls but am not crazy about them on me. I feel too mature to be sporting a rather young look. It was fun to try it out. Tori has been asking me for a while to use the wand on my hair.

  23. December 12, 2011 / 5:07 pm

@Hines-Sight I was so excited to find that jacket. The collar is removable so I can wear it to work, too. I don’t think it was ever worn – or at least not worn much. A great buy at $22.

  24. December 12, 2011 / 5:09 pm

@kathy peck Tori is very rarely grumpy. She does get overloaded with schoolwork and activities and that can make for some tears of frustration, but not usually grumpy.

I like the hair style, but I agree that the front was a little too tight. And I didn’t know what to do with my bangs all night. They drove me crazy all evening. I think I’ll leave the ringlet look to Tori and her friends.

  25. December 12, 2011 / 5:11 pm It’s not often that the five of us get together. We are all pretty busy and the kids have such active social lives.
Tori and I had a fun time dressing up and playing around with my hair. The curls aren’t my thing, but experimenting is always fun to do once in a while.

  26. December 12, 2011 / 5:39 pm

What a gorgeous bunch you are! And what a fun tradition. Your hairstyle AND your outfit look wonderful — polished casual (and I love that Kate Spade bag)

  27. December 12, 2011 / 5:54 pm

@Mongs Thank you Mongs. I would bet your kids would love to eat junk food for dinner one night a year. It’s an easy way to make them happy and give yourself (or your husband) a night off from cooking!

  28. December 12, 2011 / 5:55 pm

@Suburban Princess I liked the curly/ringlet look, but it doesn’t suit my personality. It was fun for a night out, but I think I’ll pass on that look in the future. I’m a big curl kind of gal 🙂

  29. December 12, 2011 / 6:25 pm

She did give you Taylor Swift hair! And it looks beautiful! You should wear it like that again sometime x
(I’m hosting a book giveaway on my blog, pop on over)

  30. December 12, 2011 / 6:55 pm

@déjà pseu We had a great time, but I am paying for it today (yawn). I’m not used to staying out until after 10:00 on a school night.
I like the curls too, but they’re not really *me*. It was fun to test drive them, though.

  31. December 12, 2011 / 7:29 pm

@Kate I felt a little poodle-ish myself. Once we were out in the weather, the curls loosened up a bit and looked a little better.
It is a fun family tradition. I am so glad we’ve kept it up all these many years.

  32. December 12, 2011 / 7:35 pm

@Bella Michelle I’ll ask if my hairstylist if she travels 🙂

I am so happy to hear you’re checking out clothing at your local thrift shops! I hope you find some great pieces. The key is to be patient and persistent. Wonderful things are out there, you just have to look. It helps to be *in the mood* – an energetic mood. It does take some effort 🙂

  33. December 12, 2011 / 8:35 pm

@hostess of the humble bungalow The fries weren’t really that great. I only ate a few of the tiny, extra crunchy ones.

I love my new thrifted jacket….it was such a great find.

  34. December 12, 2011 / 8:39 pm

@Carly Thanks, Carly! I tried to access your profile, but I can’t! I hope you come back again and leave your blog’s url. Thank you for the follow!

  35. December 12, 2011 / 8:42 pm

@LRS4AMANDA Ryan and his dad do look a lot alike. Always have. He is just one inch shorter than Bill at 6’6″. I always feel short when I am around the two of them.

I love the jacket but not crazy about the ringlets. It was fun to try them out, and who doesn’t like getting their hair done?

  36. December 12, 2011 / 8:47 pm

@High Heeled Life It was pretty in the lobby at the Fairmont, but it wasn’t as decked out as it could have been. I think things are a little quiet there this time of year – we were able to get seats right next to the fireplace. We were the only guests in the entire lobby. It was lovely having the place to ourselves.

  37. December 12, 2011 / 8:49 pm

@Amy Thanks Amy. It was fun. I bet you would look gorgeous in my faux fur jacket. It reminds me of something you would wear.

  38. December 12, 2011 / 8:54 pm

The fries weren’t worth it to me. I did have a few of the tiny crispy misfit fries, but I opted for a bunless bacon burger instead. Give me bacon over fries any day.

Hmmm. Good question about earning money for sugar-free candy. I would probably do a cilantro in the teeth for a slab of sugar-free almond bark.

  39. December 12, 2011 / 8:56 pm

@materfamilias Thank you! I love that KS bag. I t was a Christmas gift from about 8 or 9 years ago. I have never tired of it and carry it often. Thank you for stopping by!

  40. December 12, 2011 / 9:03 pm

@Sara Louise The running joke was that I was a brunette, middle-aged version of Taylor Swift.
I popped over and signed up for the give away. I hope I win!

  41. December 12, 2011 / 9:06 pm

@LR @ Magnificent or Egregious Thanks! Tori did do a great job. It took forever too so it’s not a style I’ll be sporting very often. But it was fun for the evening.

  42. December 12, 2011 / 10:43 pm

Adrienne, Loved the pictures. Yo can really see how all the kids have grown.

Curls look so good on you. You have some serious hair girl. I envy you!

The jacket was a find. Perfect for the holidays too with the fur!

I checked out visible Monday and your photo was the best. Honest! I might do that sometime if I can get it together here.:)

  43. December 13, 2011 / 7:05 am

Aww, how sweet to be pampered by Tori! She did a great job and it looks like you guys had a lot of fun that night!

I love the fur on your jacket! I just love fur at this time of year! It makes everything seem so cozy and luxurious! 🙂

  44. December 13, 2011 / 7:47 am

@kim at northerncalstyle. Kim, Please do join up at Visible Monday! It would be so fun. You meet lots of other bloggers and it motivates you to dress better – at least one day a week.

Also, Jill at Everything Just So and I have our monthly “How I Wear My…” posts. Next month, on January 3rd, we are featuring our statement necklaces. Email me if you have questions.

  45. December 13, 2011 / 7:56 am

@~ B. It was so relaxing to have my hair done by Tori. It was one less thing for me to do to get ready for the evening.

I like fur – usually faux – this time of year, too. I had a grey and black sweater with a black faux fur collar I wore every Christmas season for about 5 years. I wore it so much I couldn’t tell one year from the next in photos because I was always wearing the same thing.
I think I have found a replacement for my old Christmas sweater in this jacket.

  46. December 17, 2011 / 11:20 pm

Beautiful sweater. And your hair! MY goodness! Cute pup too 🙂

  47. December 27, 2011 / 10:18 am

Wait a minute, a tradition of eating junk food and candies? my god, I should really make friend with you, lol, thumbs up for that. In the other hand, your hair looks amazing, you should really wear it like that more often.
