New Shoes, Valentine’s Day Overnighter, and Visible Monday

New Shoes, Valentine’s Day Overnighter, and Visible Monday
Happy Monday!
I hope whatever you did last Thursday, celebrating Valentine’s Day or not, it was great day.

While we don’t do typical gifts anymore, we do enjoy traveling and sharing experiences with one another on Valentine’s Day.

This year, Bill booked an overnight stay for us at Vintners Inn, about 30 minutes away. And he made reservations for us to dine at John Ash, a popular Sonoma county restaurant that happens to be on the inn’s property.

I already knew what I’d be wearing for dinner far in advance, but I was up in the air about what to wear during the day. I wasn’t in the mood for red. Eventually I decided on my Valentine’s Day standby, a hot pink trench.

I wore it with Joe’s coated denim skinny jeans, a Banana Republic black tee, and a brand new pair of shoes.

I have been meaning to replace an old pair of strappy black heels for some time now but was unable to locate what I was looking for until now.

Nine West Ceece, $89

I love the sturdy heel and the 2.5″ heel height. And the price isn’t bad either!

Once we arrived at the hotel, we got settled in then had a snack and a glass of wine on the small balcony overlooking the nearby vineyards.

Later, we went for a walk around the property.

It’s beautiful this time of year but my guess is it’s really something to see in spring. I could see that lots of flowers are about to make their debut in the coming weeks.

We left for dinner shortly after sunset. With the fountain lit up and tiny white lights wrapped around light posts, I felt like I was in a faraway European city.

It was chilly out despite it being such a warm day in the 70’s. Instead of wearing my shrug that came with the dress, I chose my leopard coat.

For dinner, we went all out. I indulged in seafood having oysters on the half-shell, sea bass, lobster tail, and salmon sashimi. The meal was quite good! And the atmosphere very festive with balloons and cute confetti everywhere, like these X’s and O’s.

Later, we enjoyed a fire in the fireplace in our beautiful and spacious room before nodding off to sleep well before 10:00. We sure can’t party like we used to!

Tell me, are you more interested in travel and/or experiencing things
than in traditional gifts?
Did you go out for Valentine’s Day?
Stay in?
Or treat it like an ordinary Thursday?

I really love staying in for valentines if I am with someone but if I am single I like planning a big day of shopping in another city with a girlfriend! You looked lovely in both outfits and I dig your coated jeans!

  2. February 17, 2013 / 3:07 pm

We went out–LOVE to go out for dinner early and then dessert at home!

Love the pink trench–I love a colorful trench. and those shoes are ideal–love the heel.

wish we could wear open toed shoes here now–I’m stuck in boots for at least a month still!

  3. February 17, 2013 / 3:08 pm

Those shoes are a great find. I don’t need a black pair, but wish they came in a tan. Perfect heel height and price.
No gifts for Valentine’s Day, or actually much for anything anymore. We like to travel, and would rather spend on money on that these days. We’re about to embark on a great European trip which is a late celebration of my 60th birthday (although I did get a beautiful gift from my husband for that) and an early celebration of our 10th anniversary, as we have a grandchild due in June right around our anniversary time, so we’ll be staying put for awhile after this trip.
That place looks so lovely, and I bet it’s totally gorgeous in the late Spring.
    Love both your outfits.

  4. February 17, 2013 / 3:41 pm

It looks like a lovely place! We don’t usually go all out for V-day. Cards, that’s usually it. But we needed a break, so I made reservations for last night for a belated celebration.

You look so great in that hot pink!!

  5. February 17, 2013 / 3:48 pm

Love your outfits Adrienne and those shoes are great. I love sandals with an ankle strap. We never do the Valentine’s Day thing but this year (just to surprise me!) my Mr. Sulky came home laden with gifts for me just because he knew I wouldn’t be expecting it! I was totally spoilt with lots of lovely things.

  6. February 17, 2013 / 4:00 pm

Looks like a wonderful romantic getaway, Adrienne! We stayed close to home and had Ghirardelli chocolates : > Love your classic outfits, and your very cool new shoes.

  7. February 17, 2013 / 4:29 pm

@Nico Saich I love coated jeans, too! They look like leather – without the price tag.
We are always looking for an excuse to get away so Valentine’s Day usually means an out of town excursion either at a hotel or in our motorhome.
Hope you had fun with your boyfriend!

  8. February 17, 2013 / 4:31 pm

@Paula Ruta I think our open toed shoe weather is about to end. We are expecting cold, rainy days this week. But it was nice while it lasted!
Great idea with an early dinner, then dessert at home.

  9. February 17, 2013 / 4:36 pm

@Kathy How exciting to be heading to Europe! That is a wonderful gift for any occasion.

I hope you get to do and see lots of great things while you’re there.

One of the owners is really into flowers and gardens so loads tulips and other bulbs are planted every fall and a few already were starting to bloom while we were there.

I also wish my new shoes came in some other wearable colors. Lime green and bright orange aren’t typically colors I want on my feet!

Happy birthday and early anniversary to you!

    xoxo, A

  10. February 17, 2013 / 4:40 pm

@Déjà Pseu Oh good! It’s important to take breaks. Valentine’s Day, our birthdays and our anniversary are always nice excuses to get away!
    Have a great time!

  11. February 17, 2013 / 4:42 pm

@Sulky Kitten I love an ankle strap too. Keeps me more steady on my feet and I think they’re sexy!
I am just so curious to know what sorts of goodies Mr. Kitten brought home for you on Valentine’s Day. Hoping you might blog about it (hint, hint).

  12. February 17, 2013 / 4:44 pm

@Patti Ghiradelli chocolates from San Francisco! One of my favorites.
I am thrilled with my shoes too – must put them away for a week or so while we have some rain and cold temps. I am sure they will get lots of use this spring and summer!

  13. February 17, 2013 / 6:10 pm

What a nice Valentine’s Day getaway! Love the pink and black outfit. The shoes are adorable! My husband and I treated ourselves to a fancy dinner date, since we’ve been cutting back so much. I had salmon and he had halibut. Both were very delicious dishes.

  14. February 17, 2013 / 6:33 pm

What a wonderful trip! And you look beautiful in both Valentine’s outfits.

My husband did something special for me that didn’t cost a penny but showed me that he truly cares. I wrote about it in my post on Visible Monday!

  15. February 17, 2013 / 6:53 pm

I adore being taken away by my husband…
we have such a lovely time away from the things that always call to us…domestics and home maintenance are easily forgotten when one is away…
you look fabulous Adrienne and I think you have lost more weight as you look so svelte…what is your secret?

  16. February 17, 2013 / 7:52 pm

    Hello Adrienne

Your outfits were most fitting for the occasion. I would take a trip any time over gifts. We did celebrate with 8 couples over dinner. Lots of fun

  17. February 17, 2013 / 8:02 pm

The punk trench is gorgeous and you look so elegant!!! Love your hair!

  18. February 17, 2013 / 9:34 pm

    Love that bright pink!

You need to get my XO stud earrings to match your confetti!

  19. February 17, 2013 / 9:57 pm

@Sylvia Sounds like a great evening out!
I love both salmon and halibut. Could eat them everyday!

  20. February 17, 2013 / 10:03 pm

@hostess of the humble bungalow Me too, Leslie. I will always vote for going away somewhere over a piece of jewelry or something.
I have not lost weight but I am thrilled that you think I have! I am, or was maintaining. But now I am sick with a nasty virus and am eating what I want and not exercising at all…quite the opposite. I am confined to bed. Thank goodness for blogging or what would I do?

  21. February 17, 2013 / 10:04 pm

@helen tilston What a fun idea to have couples over for dinner on Valentine’s Day! Something like that has never crossed my mind. Maybe one year we will give that a try.

  22. February 18, 2013 / 2:30 am

    You look stunning!
I love the pink coat as well as your elegant evening outfit with the leopard jacket.

I’d love to be treated with a romatic evening and night out.
Your husband has chosen a lovely location!

Valentine’s Day isn’t really popular here in Germany and most of my German friends wouldn’t even know or celebrate the occasion.

  23. February 18, 2013 / 5:22 am

My husband is not a Valentine’s day type, although he always buys me a book, but we did celebrate, not Valentine’s day though but his birthday, he turned 39 and we drove around to find a nice restaurant, we found one in a neighbourhood that is becoming veru popular in Rome called Pigneto, the inside looked like a French bistrot but the food was Roman…too bad we did not have time to change into smarter clothes ’cause it was a last minute arrangment.. my mum said she would babysit at quarter to eight pm…you can imagine…

  24. February 18, 2013 / 6:33 am

Great look, I love the black on black, pink coat, coated denim and cute shoes. Yes, I prefer experiences over things any way! Smart girl you are. 🙂

  25. February 18, 2013 / 7:19 am

How romantic- and I love the heart throb pink of your trench! We don’t celebrate Vday- but the dude did wish me Happy Valentines Day for days afterwards- silly man. However any excuse for a sweet getaway like yours, I’d gladly celebrate!

  26. February 18, 2013 / 8:21 am

Adrienne you look absolutely stunning! Thank you for sharing your romantic get away..I am developing quite a yearning to return to Napa for a visit!

  27. February 18, 2013 / 8:34 am

I like the look of those heels and I love your hot pink trench with the monochromatic black.

    visiting from
    Have a great week!

  28. February 18, 2013 / 2:06 pm

Even I found more romantic just reading about you guys’ celebration – and my husband will tell you, he’s definitely the girl in our relationship 😛

Ah, shoes. I love those. I bought a pair of Seychelles in a similar style to wear this spring. But I’m seriously sticking to one out for everything in. I think a gal can have too many shoes – or at least this one can 🙂

  29. February 18, 2013 / 2:33 pm

What a lovely place to spend the holiday.

You are so beautiful and both outfits are very chic on you. I love the hot pink trench. Fab style!

  30. February 18, 2013 / 5:52 pm

I really like that pink jacket with the black outfit. And those shoes are fantastic! Great look on you.

It is nice that you and Bill are so romantical (got that word from the “Little Rascals” movie years ago) with one another. And I still envy all the beautiful places you can go in your neck of the woods. I think California is calling me. xo H

  31. February 18, 2013 / 7:24 pm

It was an ordinary day, but my husband shows me he loves me everyday. Looks like a great time and I loved your day outfit. The hot pink trench is so fun and you look awesome in your skinnies.

  32. February 18, 2013 / 7:53 pm

    @Lady of Style Hi Annette!
I was wondering about how popular Valentine’s Day is in other parts of the world. And you’ve answered my question, at least in terms of Germany.

  33. February 18, 2013 / 8:01 pm

@lovesjetlag Sounds like a fun day. I would love to spend Valentine’s Day in Rome – so ‘roman’tic (of course, I know it’s totally different when you live there).
A book is a very thoughtful gift.
    Happy birthday to your husband!

  34. February 18, 2013 / 8:07 pm

@Alison @ Get Your Pretty On Hi Alison!
Yes! Experiences are invaluable and irreplaceable. I would much rather have something so priceless as a wonderful memory over something tangible. Any day!

  35. February 18, 2013 / 8:20 pm

@Bella Q It’s more of an excuse to get away than it is actually celebrating Valentine’s Day. We are always looking for reasons to travel, even if it’s just 20 miles up the road.
I love that – “heart throb pink”. I will always think of that now whenever I wear my trench 😉

  36. February 18, 2013 / 8:26 pm

@Tamera Beardsley Thank you, Tamera! We were actually in Sonoma this time, but Napa is very close by. If you ever come to visit either, please let me know. I would love to meet you in person.

  37. February 18, 2013 / 8:29 pm

@Lynne DeVenny So funny you should say that! I have organized my closet in such a way that I don’t have room for any new shoes unless I get rid of an old pair – which is exactly what I have been doing lately. One in and one out is a great rule!

  38. February 18, 2013 / 8:40 pm

@vintagefrenchchic We are pretty romantical (love that word and never knew where it came from until now).
We have always made it a priority to spend time away as a couple. I think it’s one of many things that makes our marriage strong.

  39. February 18, 2013 / 8:42 pm

@vintagefrenchchic Oh, and the reason California has been calling you to come visit is because it is! It’s me beckoning you to come out and see me 😉

  40. February 18, 2013 / 11:39 pm

You look like Sandy in Grease in that first photo and I mean that in the best possible way! (i.e; HOT!)

  41. February 19, 2013 / 5:49 am

Adrenne, you are more beautiful and real than any top model, ahhhhhhhhhhhh.
    Love you in pink.

  42. February 19, 2013 / 4:24 pm

That hot pink trench is da bomb! Definitely the right choice for you rather than red. 🙂

  43. February 19, 2013 / 4:33 pm

On a dead run, but had to stop by. Looking way cute in your jeans, love the shoes, and pink coat! All of it!

  44. February 19, 2013 / 5:37 pm

Love your outfits. The hotel looked gorgeous. I really like your black skinny jeans with the pink. You make me wish I was 6 feet tall. 🙂 After all my trips this month, I’ve got to get back to exercising.

  45. February 19, 2013 / 5:51 pm

    Hi Adrienne,
Love your look for this post~ looking hot for an overnighter date night!! The shoes look super chic with your outfit. What a fun get away for you and Bill and the resort looks lovely. Sorry you were under the weather for meeting up Saturday but I’m hoping you are feeling better by now. The weather in Napa was fabulous so we enjoyed our wine country stay immensely.
Have a lovely week lovely friend! xx, Heather

  46. February 20, 2013 / 1:34 am

Totally loving the pink coat over black! I am crazy for pink lately, great flattering color in my opinion 🙂 New follower here!
