While we don’t do typical gifts anymore, we do enjoy traveling and sharing experiences with one another on Valentine’s Day.
This year, Bill booked an overnight stay for us at Vintners Inn, about 30 minutes away. And he made reservations for us to dine at John Ash, a popular Sonoma county restaurant that happens to be on the inn’s property.
I already knew what I’d be wearing for dinner far in advance, but I was up in the air about what to wear during the day. I wasn’t in the mood for red. Eventually I decided on my Valentine’s Day standby, a hot pink trench.
I wore it with Joe’s coated denim skinny jeans, a Banana Republic black tee, and a brand new pair of shoes.
I have been meaning to replace an old pair of strappy black heels for some time now but was unable to locate what I was looking for until now.

I love the sturdy heel and the 2.5″ heel height. And the price isn’t bad either!
Once we arrived at the hotel, we got settled in then had a snack and a glass of wine on the small balcony overlooking the nearby vineyards.
Later, we went for a walk around the property.
It’s beautiful this time of year but my guess is it’s really something to see in spring. I could see that lots of flowers are about to make their debut in the coming weeks.
We left for dinner shortly after sunset. With the fountain lit up and tiny white lights wrapped around light posts, I felt like I was in a faraway European city.
For dinner, we went all out. I indulged in seafood having oysters on the half-shell, sea bass, lobster tail, and salmon sashimi. The meal was quite good! And the atmosphere very festive with balloons and cute confetti everywhere, like these X’s and O’s.
Later, we enjoyed a fire in the fireplace in our beautiful and spacious room before nodding off to sleep well before 10:00. We sure can’t party like we used to!
