Michal Golan Jewelry

I have always loved unique jewelry and enjoy wearing interesting pieces that start conversations. Baubles that have meaning as well as beauty soon become my most worn and cherished. When I was introduced to Michal Golan Jewelry a few months ago, I was instantly drawn to her line. Once I learned about the woman behind the brand, I became a loyal fan!

Michal Golan

Michal was born in Israel and came to the United States to pursue degrees in art. She received her bachelor’s degree at University of Maryland, then went on to earn her master’s degree at NYU. She began making jewelry on the side to support herself through school. Demand for her unique and artistic jewelry soon grew and her husband Michael began managing the business. Twenty years later and they still work together, making all the jewelry and managing the flourishing business out of the first floor of their home in Manhattan.

Michal Golan

Michal also creates ceramic art work in her free time and is inspired my mosaics, Middle-Eastern aesthetics, and Victorian era jewelry. All the jewelry is handmade at the studio and 80% of the jewelry components are made in the United States.

Michal Golan Jewelry is very much a family-operated business. Michal’s daughter, who also works for the company, tells me that their home and the studio are connected, creating a fun and easy going atmosphere. They have office pets running about and music playing all day in the jewelry studio. Michal works in what her daughter calls a ‘creative mess’ with piles of crystals and chains. Her mother plays with her materials until she finds the ideal color combinations and designs. The new pieces are shown to everyone in the office and they decide together which styles they like best. It sounds like a wonderfully fun and creative environment!

Michal’s Evil Eye jewelry has been worn by celebrities like Christina Milian and Melissa Gorga of The Real Housewives of New Jersey. And it’s the piece I selected from Michal’s collection.

I asked Michal about the significance and meaning of the evil eye and here’s what she had to say:

“I love the evil eye because it’s a familiar symbol and something reminiscent of my childhood. I love working with mediums and shapes that I grew up with in the Middle East, it is the aesthetic I feel most comfortable in. This is also why I work with ceramics when not creating jewelry, the ceramic arts are very prominent in the Middle East and I grew up seeing them. But the eye is also special because it’s something symbolic for any culture. It has such a positive energy to it. In Israel it is seen as protecting the wearer from jealousy, however in every culture eyes are important and beautiful, they are the ‘windows to the soul’.”

I selected the Evil Eye necklace with blue accents from Michal’s collection. I love the triple chain utilizing both gold-tones and silver tones.

My Evil Eye Necklace is such a versatile piece. I wear mine almost every day. It looks great with a simple and casual denim look.

And it looks beautiful with feminine elements like this lace top.

You may have noticed I wore it in my recent Comfort Sandal Trend post. This necklace gets lots of play! I love the meaning behind the Evil Eye design and it’s extraordinary beauty.

I would love to win one of these necklaces. Until I met my Greek husband I had never heard of the evil eye but it is huge in the Greek culture. My husband’s aunt gave me a necklace while we were in Greece and I then bought several as souvenirs to bring back. These Michal Golan evil eyes are gorgeous.
