How I Wear My: Favorite Color

How I Wear My: Favorite Color

Welcome to How I Wear My: Favorite Color!

It’s the 38th installation in the How I Wear My series.

One of the highlights of the fall season is the infusion of so much intense color into our daily lives—think of the beautiful sunsets tipped in pink, the rich shades of pumpkins on front porches, the turning of leaves from green to red, orange, and gold. With our eyes about to be dazzled by the heart-stopping hues of autumn, Jill of Everything Just So and I decided to devote October’s “How I Wear My” to Favorite Color.

We are excited to show you what colors our lovely participants favor!

Jill of Everything Just So gets us started with her favorite color, blue! Jill says, “I’m wearing an Hermès scarf, ‘Le Laboratoire du Temps’ by Pierre-Marie, since it contains so many shades of my favorite color, blue. I love wearing this particular scarf with blue jeans!”

What a captivating pattern with such vibrant colors. They really stand out against the black sweater.

Favorite color Jill

Dawn Lucy of Fashion Should Be Fun says red is her favorite color. Here she is in a date night or party look with a basic black skirt and top and fabulous pop of red. The red hot heels add a heavy dose of  Va Va Voom!

Classic, fun and sexy!

Delilah of Pumps and Studz has this to say about her beautiful burgundy look:

“Although it’s being called Sangria this season, most know and refer to this color as burgundy. Burgundy is my absolute favorite hue and since it’s trending, I have been able to pick up a few items that I wouldn’t normally find, like this fedora. I love the richness of the color, it looks great when worn in a monotone ensemble or with a contrasting color like pearl.”

I adore the hat! What a chic look for fall.

Trina of Tea Time With Trina tells us that most colors of fall are her favorites. She says, “The rich tones of the natural colors of nature just warm my heart and each season I seem to collect a few new items to add to my collection of fall attire.”

Here she wears a simple shift dress with a bold pattern, rich with colors of nature. She wears this dress any chance she gets during this fall season.

I love the vintage feel of this look!

Jeannette of Ms. Jeannie and Her Closet is new to How I Wear My. Her favorite color is black, followed closely by pink! She combines both with this black leather shift dress and hot pink bow Kate Spade bag.

What a fun and stylish look!

Rebecca of Barefoot in the Kitchen, another first time contributor to How I Wear My, says this about her favorite color:  “My Charter Club cardigan was an Autumn gift from my dear Mum last year. I have loved it for the warm, happy colours within the detailed pattern, and for its ability to accept Autumn’s chilly arrival, while still retaining the hues of sunlight. A versatile piece in my wardrobe, I have pulled it out for both casual and special occasions. Whether pairing it with an edgy pencil skirt, or dark blue bootcut jeans, it is definitely my favourite sweater, both comfort and colour wise.”

Such beautiful fall colors on a beautiful young woman!

Alice of Happiness at Mid-Life says, “As much as I love colors, I always gravitate neutrals and play with patterns as I did here. The addition of the burgundy purse makes it fall ready!”

I agree, Alice. Neutrals are almost always my first choice.

Alicia of Spashionista says, “My favorite color is purple, of course! Here I am in a dark lavender dress at Nashville Fashion Week 2014. It’s a simple dress but a great canvas for accessories like the J Crew necklace and leopard shrug.”

Alicia proves that jewel tones with leopard are always a glamorous combination!

Susan of Une Femme d’un Certain Age has this to say about her favorite color:

“Have you guessed my favorite color?  It’s black! Something about wearing black makes me feel strong, solid and grounded. I’ll pair black with navy, brown, white and olive, but my favorite combo is black and denim. I think black dresses up denim, and gives it a refined edge.”

The long sweater coat with the layered necklaces make this look a real head-turner!

Tracy of Still Stylish..After All These Years and Tracy Fredericks Beauty is a first time HIWM’er. She says, “This dress is in my favorite color, pink. It’s special because this photo is me on my 50th birthday this past August 31. I am now 50 and FABULOUS!”

Happy belated 50th, Tracy! You look stunning in your pink dress.

Silk Path Diary says this about her favorite color: “It’s funny because I never thought I had a favourite colour. It’s like food, I like such a variety I couldn’t possibly choose. I stuck with my beloved neutrals with a few brights and that was it but thinking about it for your series, it has to be blue!
Most shades are flattering and I find it’s a work horse colour all year round. Obvious casual jeans blues are my most worn but I prefer a Little Navy Dress to black these days and navy pants are always smart enough for the office or formal wear.”

In this look, SPD wears a short trench in dark blue with double denim. To add elegance and a feminine touch, she carries a gorgeous Hermès Kelly 28 in black box leather and black flats. And did you notice the scarf wrapped around the handle of the Kelly?

Relaxed and casual in blue meet sophisticated glamour!

Terry of Terry’s Two Cents wears a red sweater by Oscar de la Renta. He tells us his favorite color is red…and black…and blue.

I can relate, Terry! It’s hard to choose just one. I need to find that sweater for my husband!

Malia of Style by Malia says her favorite col0rs are black and blue. Here, she wears a Lane Bryant black leather and ponte dress with camouflage shoes by Tahari. “Black is what I rock when something is important. It makes me feel powerful!”

We all need a good power dress in a power color. Great advice from a powerful woman!

Caroline, a reader and first time HIWM participant, loves all shades of brown from deep, rich chocolates to light tans. Here she wears a khaki shirt dress and a Burberry coat.

Always a beautiful classic!

Ana of Mrs. American Made says, “Sometimes I like to combine my favorite color, blue, with black. Here this Made in USA Nanette Lepore silk top is a vibrant blue and black print. I let the color be the star of the outfit and kept everything toned down and neutral or black.”

Ana lights up in electric blue!

Linda of A Labour of Life  says that she hasn’t figured out her new favorite colors yet, since changing her hair color. She is still experimenting but often reverts back to primary colors such as red and yellow.

Here she’s wearing a plaid shirt from Forever 21 with white jeans from Joe Fresh and her Old Navy Canada Sweater. Linda went to a rodeo in this fun, casual look!

Cynthia of My Rose Colored Shades loves neutrals and says, “When it comes to clothing, I am naturally drawn to neutrals such as white, grays, tans, and of course, black.”

Gorgeous silhouette here!

Teresa, photographer Denton Taylor’s wife, loves brown. Here she is relaxing in Lake George in a brown silk blouse.

Just in time for fall!

Nora of Jacket Society tells us, “This is a soft printed jacket that I just found from Forever 21 in a beautiful teal blend. I love this color for early fall and I am wearing it with my waxed jeans from G Star and a beautiful drapped sea foam top from Ann Taylor. I accessorized with cognac leather pointy pumps, a belt and my Gucci bag. I also added some vintage moroccan necklaces with an antique look.”

I love the variety of blues represented here. They work so well with the cognac accessories and fabulous jewelry!

Merci of Chic on Thrift says her favorite color is lime green. This was her first time combining lime with grey shades. She loves this ensemble. She wore a hair clip as a brooch, using it to clip the belt in place. She says it added much needed sunshine to a rather overcast day.

I bet it did! You are radiant in lime, Merci!

Nicole from High Latitude Style says, “I know, I know, black is not a color. However, since I was a little girl my favorite color has been black. You can imagine that I always had a hard time fighting to get clothes in my favorite color back then. I love this color so much that I even had it my wedding outfit! Here I am wearing a LBD in my favorite fabric: leather. I hope you like this outfit as much as I do.”

I do, I do! Sleek and chic!

Not only does my stepdaughter, Tori, look terrific in blue but it looks great on her. From powdery blues to deep navy, and everything in between, Tori adores blue. I think she has more blue in her closet than any other color. Here she wears a Grace Cardigan by Stella Carakasi with a tank she tie-dyed herself and hot pink fitness tights. Her blue cardigan can be worn with jeans or a dress or to yoga class!

Ever since I can remember, burgundy has been my favorite color. I love all the different variations in burgundy shades. Some have a pink, berry hue. Others are very deep and dark.  I lean toward the darker shades like this Defining Moment Tunic by Stella Carakasi in Aubergine. I love the way this tunic drapes across my shoulders.

I wore my tunic with my favorite new shoes:  Ivanka Trump pumps in a similar burgundy shade.

And my much-loved black pants that I blogged about earlier this week.

Next month’s “How I Wear My” marks our third year of the series. 3 years! We can hardly believe it.

Third anniversary presents are made of leather (traditional) or crystal or glass (modern), we which think is perfect since those things can also be used in clothing and accessories! So please join us in November for “How I Wear My: Leather, Crystal, or Glass.” Faux leather is encouraged too for all you vegan lovelies out there, so pull out your faux or real leather clothing and big sparkly crystal and glass jewelry and share your pictures of how you wear them with us!

Photos are due by November 3, 2014.

Everyone looks great. Color is so interesting to me as a painter, because I have favorite colors for different things, like my favorite colors to wear have nothing to do with colors I use to decorate my home, and those have nothing to do with colors I tend to use in paintings. After thinking about it, and trying to find a color I use in every way, I’ve come up with a French blue, sort of faded, grayed out denim color. I never really liked Burgundy on me until this year, now it looks good, but it’s really your color Adrienne.

Burgundy is your color for sure, you’re glowing in it! Such wonderful outfits from everyone, but seeing the hot pink purse and dress made me smile. I love that color so much but it’s sadly missing from my wardrobe. I need to remedy this.
