How I Wear My: Long Necklace

Welcome to the 43rd How I Wear My post!

This month, the theme is Long Necklace.

Long necklaces are a classic piece in any woman’s jewelry collection. They can add instant personality to any outfit –  casual, formal or in between. Jill of Everything Just So and I wanted to highlight them for February’s “How I Wear My.” Whether of precious metals and stones or pure costume, long necklaces add a touch of glamour to a look in an effortless way.

As always, Jill of Everything Just So gets things started! Jill looks gorgeous in a multi-strand necklace by J. Crew and a lace jacket from Macy’s. She tells us, “I got the necklace on sale a few years ago and it is easily my favorite since it’s easy to wear and goes with nearly everything I own!”

I just love this color palette on Jill!

Cheryl of Northwest Mountain Living says, “I have had this necklace for 20 years and it truly is my favorite. I bought it at a little jewelry boutique in a small town in the Midwest where everything was handmade and one of a kind. I love the color combinations and earthy-stone look so much. The necklace goes with at least 75% of what I wear and never seems to go out of style.”

What an interesting statement necklace. Cheryl does Mountain Style right!

Trina of Tea Time With Trina says, “This is how I accessorize my basic all-red dress. This layered necklace seems to go hand in hand with the dress!”

Trina looks like a Hollywood star with her layers upon layers of baubles, red dress and sunglasses!

Deborah of Fabulous After 40 says, “I wanted something minimalistic, modern and relaxed to go with this southwestern style poncho. This chic pendant necklace from Ann Taylor fit the bill. I love gold, and the black geometric bauble ties the whole outfit together. This was a great buy. I’ve worn this necklace with many things – very versatile.”

I love this necklace and the poncho is absolutely stunning. Such a stylish look!

Tamera of Tamera Beardsley always brings us major glamour and this month is no exception! Here she wears a stunning multi-layer statement necklace with a chic neutral look and says, “A bold long necklace is always a quick way for me to finish off an outfit … it’s like icing on a cake!”

That is one glamorous cake!

Ana of Mrs. American Made says, “I wear my long necklace #madeinUSA and made by me! And a bonus to making things myself is that I can customize the length – since I am petite I need a shorter version of a ‘long’ necklace and this piece is a good example. Also each one of my long necklaces incorporates a trend that I noticed – this one is asymmetrical and has a variety of sections and of materials so I can wear it many ways.”

Gorgeous necklace, Ana! You wear it so well.

Linda of A Labour of Life says, “Is there anything better than pearls?? Well yes, multi-layers of long strands of pearls, of course. I love this necklace set and especially love wearing it with leopard and leather. My Biker Babe meets Preppy Babe, which is all me of course. The many faucets of who we are as mature women.”

A great blend of ladylike style and edginess!

Suzanne of Suzanne Carillo wears a long necklace featuring beads and a feather, all on a chain. She wears it with a pale yellow sweater, floral cropped pants and the most fabulous magenta cage shoes ever!

Susan of Une Femme d’un Certain Age says. “This is my version of cocktail party wear. The necklace is an opera-length strand of irregular fresh water pearls, doubled.”

Elegant sophistication at its best!

Tori, my stepdaughter, wears a multi-strand gold chain and pearl necklace from Forever 21. She styled it with a black tank dress with a lace trim, over-the-knee socks, tall boots and a Stella Carakasi sweater vest for a youthful, hobo vibe.

Susan of High Heels in the Wilderness tells us: “I have included photos of one of my favourite long necklaces. I bought it years ago at a the Ottawa Vintage Clothing Show. It’s not exactly old, just made from old bits. The round base of the pendant is a hammered-flat, metal bottle cap, and on the bits of chains are nuts and washers and even one tiny rhinestone. I love it because it’s unique and kind of quirky. And it goes perfectly with a pair of earrings I have made from old coins. Of course I’m wearing my long white turtleneck from Gap…it seems I’m hardly without it this winter. And…that’s all your fault, you know. If your “winter white” HIWM hadn’t inspired me, I would never have bought it:)”

Fantastic casual winter look, Susan. I am so glad HIWM Winter White led you to a purchase you wear often!

Nora of Jacket Society says, “I am wearing my blue Ance Studio jacket with my flared black pants, a Prada bag and two of my brand new long beaded tassel necklaces layered together which are part of my new jewelry line and are available for purchase on my website.”

Gorgeous necklaces, I am off to shop!

Catherine of Not Dressed As Lamb wears an eagle necklace from ASOS with an oversized purple sweater and floppy hat for a modern, urban, boho look.

Dawn Lucy of Fashion Should Be Fun wears all black and offsets it with a beautiful long necklace. She says, “My mom always told me if you want to look tall and skinny wear all black and a long necklace, so that one’s for mom.”

Good advice!

Malia of Style by Malia says, “I love to add a long statement necklace to a turtleneck to add a little bit of length. This necklace is from Avenue.”

I adore that orange sweater with the gold tones of the necklace.

Ann of Tarnished Royalty says, “I think tunics are great for showing off a long necklace. Here I layered a lace top underneath a gray tunic to tie in with the lace of the necklace. My long necklace is one I created using a rusty piece of hardware as the base, covered in vintage lace and adorned with a chunky red vintage button. The small pop of red was enough color to keep it from feeling drab and dreary like the winter days we’ve been having.”

What a beautiful and artistic piece of jewelry!

Alice of Happiness at Mid-Life says, “With this outfit, I added the snood for extra warmth with the Givenchy long necklace. When it got hotter in the afternoon, I took off the snood and the necklace kept the outfit adorned.”

That Givenchy necklace is gorgeous!

Debbie of Fashion Fairy Dust says, “I paired my long double strand necklace with the shorter statement necklace to dress up the otherwise plain black turtleneck. I like that there’s a subtle opposition between the casual hoodie and the fancier necklaces.”

Love the layered look with mixed patterns!

Elise from The Cooking Wardrobe says,”Being someone who loves jewelry, I just couldn’t pass up this opportunity. The canary outfit I wore to a barbecue. Nothing beats bright colors in summer!”

What a beautiful and dramatic necklace! It’s looks so fresh against the bright yellow.

To finish off my casual look of white jeans from J. Crew, a long striped cardigan sweater from Free People (similar) and booties from Sole Society, I needed a long necklace.

I chose this fun double strand necklace. I adore the little crystal filled cylinders.

Depending on where you live, March can be tough to dress for, freezing one day, mild the next. One item that always works this time of year with unexpected weather changes are booties! Whether you like them with a high or wedge heel, low-slung with a Western feel or sharp and chic for strolling down city sidewalks, join us for “How I Wear My: Booties.” Send a picture to us at by March 2, 2015.

Be sure to stop by Jill’s blog, Everything Just So, to see even more chic looks featuring long necklaces!

Love this. I have a few vintage long necklaces and gave away some very cool ones when I moved a year ago. I will pull out the vintage and give it a try. (And not cry over the ones I gave away!)

Adrienne thank you featuring me!! I especially loved that outfit – I’d had this eagle necklace for ages and this was the first time I wore it. Like others have mentioned I love the lengthening effect of a long necklace! Plus your outfit of white skinnies and striped cardigan is just to die for… the necklaces are the *perfect* finishing touch.

There’s so much inspo here, all the ladies look fabulous. What a great series you and Jill have created!

Adrienne, both your long necklaces are stunning and yet so practical. I’m so loving the long tassel gold necklace you recently purchased, I would be wearing that beauty daily. This double strand is also fantastic. I’ve been wearing a longer, simple necklace more and more these days. It was a lot of fun seeing how all these women are also wearing them.

Everyone looks great and so much variety. I’ve never worn a long necklace, not sure why?

Most of the necklaces here are more in the semi-long category, and they look very nice. The really long ones do look nice as well, but they’re too difficult to wear because they swing around & get in my way.
