Yellow for Spring!

Yellow for Spring!

I simply adore yellow. It’s such a happy spring color!

According to

“Yellow is the best color to create enthusiasm for life and can awaken greater confidence and optimism. The color yellow loves a challenge, particularly a mental challenge.

Within the meaning of colors, yellow is the great communicator and loves to talk. Yellow is the color of the networker and the journalist, all working and communicating on a mental level. Yellow is the scientist, constantly analyzing, looking at both sides before making a decision; methodical and decisive. Yellow is the entertainer, the comic, the clown.”

Sounds good to me, except maybe for the clown part.

Today, I’d like to celebrate this highly visible and brilliant color by showing you some of my favorite yellow things and images.

Yellow in Nature:

My husband and I stayed at Brewery Gulch Inn in Mendocino a couple of weeks ago. I will be telling you all about our stay at this lovely and peaceful inn on Rich Life Travel Friday this week.

The property at Brewery Gulch Inn is lush and green and full of trees and flowers. This yellow iris growing in a planter box near the entrance of the inn caught my eye. It was so vibrant and just begging to be examined.

This spring brought Northern California some incredible yellow hues in the form of mustard fields. Many vineyards, meadows and hillsides in Sonoma and Napa Valleys were covered with mustard flowers for several wonderful weeks. Mendocino also sported some yellow fields like this one near the Pacific Ocean. Even on a gray and foggy day, yellow mustard fields are bright and cheery.

Yellow in Fashion:

As far as yellow things in my closet go, there aren’t many. This golden-yellow straw bag that Heather from Chez Bliss gave me a couple of years ago goes with me every time I travel out of town by car, which is often. It’s great for the beach or a picnic too. I love the warm yellow color and of course, the purple grape cluster makes it ideal for wine country!

I first saw this pattern from Stella Carakasi last fall their lookbook. I knew the moment I laid eyes on this top I would have to have it. The dabs of yellow throughout the pattern make it so unique and interesting and give it that extra boost of vibrancy I love!

More along the lines of mustard yellow, this Stella Carakasi sweater* looks great with blues, whites and grays. The subdued yellow color is almost like a neutral. I wasn’t sure I would look okay having this shade of yellow so close to my face but I think it works!

I saw this photo a few weeks ago on Glenda’s blog, So What to Twenty, and my jaw dropped. How yummy is this dress..and Glenda in the dress? I love everything about this look!

Yellow in Accessories and Beauty:

I have a few yellow items in my jewelry and makeup drawers that I like to wear. I bought the yellow glass ring in Lucca, Italy a few years ago –  it really makes a colorful statement!

Silver and Stone is one of my must-visit shops in Mendocino. I love Sydelle’s collection of stylish and unique jewelry like these yellow drop earring, accented in copper.

My faux snakeskin sandals in yellow are from Gap. They are very comfortable and  have cute ankle strap for a sassy, modern vibe.

I bought this butter London polish in Pimms after I couldn’t find the yellow hue I wanted at my local nail salon. Now I just need to find the time to go back for a new pedicure! Sandal season is definitely here.

A close friend of mine knows my lust for yellow and sent me a link to these Franco Sarto slides. Isn’t this color fantastic? I was ready to press ‘buy’ but they are sold out in my size everywhere. I even called the nice people at Franco Sarto to see about ordering a pair from them but no luck. I will just have to admire them online until a new shipment comes in (wishful thinking?).

3131213-p-MULTIVIEWLast summer, I was asked by my friends at Montecristi Panama Hats of Napa Valley to play model for a day with their hats. I rememember this yellow hat so well – who could forget it?

I would love to wear this hat to a springtime derby event. The color would really stand out in a crowd!

Yellow in Home Design:

My friend, Michelle, has the cutest wine country house with the cutest yellow front door. I love her color scheme.  Her home was recently featured in Cottage Living Magazine. Isn’t that fantastic?

I also love this little yellow home turned boutique in Sonoma. La Brocante carries stylish clothing that fits my lifestyle. I love to shop all the rooms of this quaint yellow house!

Are you a lover of yellow too?

I have a very exciting announcement to make later this week about Y E L L O W!!

Stay tuned and if you’re in the Bay Area, please save the date: Friday, May 1st in the evening.

I can hardly wait to share the news with you!

Make it a rich day!

I love yellow – reminds me of the sun, of summer – great evocative color. I love everything you’ve shown. That yellow door is just incredible. Yellow is a great accent color if you wear a lot of neutrals (which I do) as well.

I have always loved the color yellow and just started adding it to my guest room/bath. Now you have me wanting to add more of it to my wardrobe with a fun hat, shoes or even that super fun polish!

I am a yellow person from way….way back! In our house here we have yellow of some kind in almost every room: I especially love the pale yellow ceiling in our kitchen. But no, I don’t wear that much yellow: it’s a tricky color to carry off. My favorite item is probably some retro/vintage clip earrings that are large and very yellow!

Visiting from VM. I absolutely love this article you have created. Yellow is a colour I ALWAYS thought I couldn’t wear (and didn’t like) for about 28 years until bloggers introduced me to mustard! And I discovered I like many shades now. You look sensational in that hat, OH it is beautiful (I am rather a hat fanatic!)
Tis very nice to meet you!xx
