Farewell, Summer 2015

Summer 2015 has come to a close. And what a summer it’s been! From celebrating my husband’s 50th birthday with an unforgettable two-week Southern California road trip to the devastating and tragic fire season that has ravaged Northern California, it’s been a summer for the memory books.

I like to end each season with a look back at all the good, all the not-so-good and take stock. Just for fun today, I’d like to share some of my favorite moments, destinations, fashions, foods and more from this summer.

Favorite Moments:

~ When my husband rented this behemoth paddle board on his 50th birthday and paddled into the Pacific Ocean, loving every second.

~ Spending an obscenely hot summer Sunday with a fantastic and dynamic group of North Bay business women at Farmstead in Napa Valley. Malia of Style by Malia arranged this brunch for our group. It was a tasty, fun and memorable feast full of laughs (and wine!).

~ Seeing Bill’s face when he opened the door to his surprise 50th birthday party. You can’t put a price tag on a moment like that!

Favorite Events:

Broadway Under the Stars in Glen Ellen’s Jack London State Park was simply amazing from start to finish. I am already looking forward to next summer just so I can see another performance!

~ The Fall Mix & Layer Event, hosted by Whole Foods Market Coddingtown, was a fun-filled and delicious event. Lots of fun guests, fall fashions, wine, shopping and beauty!

~ Bill and I got some serious culture on board during Festival del Sole 2015 in Napa Valley! We spent three nights taking in a ballet, a play and a symphony. I am looking forward to next summer’s line up!

Favorite Travel Destinations:

~ Since Bill and I met we’ve talked about staying at Hotel del Coronado. We finally made it a reality for his 50th birthday. What a wonderful and charming place…and that beach! We will be back.

~ One of our favorite places to unwind and unplug belongs to a couple of our favorite people. We stayed at their home in Los Angeles during Bill’s birthday trip. What a lovely and relaxing couple of days!

~ Another place Bill and I have been talking about staying for many, many years is the Madonna Inn. As part of his birthday trip, we booked two nights. What a kick this place is! I fell in love with it’s kitschy vibe and just might spend my 50th here!

Favorite New-to-me Products:

My hair routine has completely changed since getting the Voloom. I love this hair tool because it gives my hair the lift, texture and volume I need in minutes. It’s become part of my everyday routine. Read my full review here.

~ I finally got around to buying a Spiralizer and let me tell you, it is awesome! Who needs pasta when you can make your own out of healthy, low-carb squash. My waistline loves it! I just bought a spiralizing cookbook, Inspiralized, that arrived this week and can’t wait to make some of the recipes.

~  Coloring got me through a lot of lonely evenings while Bill was away at fires – about 32 out of the last 60 days. I highly recommend trying an adult coloring book. It’s like meditation except coloring is easy to do!

Favorite New-to-Me Foods:

~ Zoodles (zuchinni made into noodles with a spiralizer) with fresh pesto and grilled chicken breast. Oh my! I could eat this daily.

~ Tori made the best sweet treat and it’s healthy!  She sliced bananas, arranged them on a plate lined with parchment, melted 80% cacao chocolate, drizzled it on top of the banana slices, sprinkled them, with chopped toasted almonds and sea salt then stuck them in the freezer. SO GOOD!!!

~ While attending Festival del Sole we met Jesse, owner of Feast Catering, who was offering a selection of hors d’oeuvres in the VIP section. I tried one of his Caesar Salad rolls and still haven’t stopped talking about them. I could eat that tray by myself!

Favorite Outfits:

I bought this Lesley Evers maxi dress recently and now Lesley is one of my favorite designers. Malia of Style by Malia introduced me to this California brand. I adore her dresses and bought three at her Corte Madera boutique. I’ve only had this dress a few weeks and have already worn it three times! It’s comfortable, colorful and makes me feel glamorous.

~ I love to adding a little boho into my wardrobe, especially with fringe pieces. This fringe cardigan was a purchase from one of the shops at Hotel del Coronado. I plan on wearing it well into fall…but maybe not with shorts.

~ Feminine, flattering, alluring are all adjectives that come to mind when describing this Lace Dress from Les Lunes. I can’t help but feel amazing in this dress.

Favorite Summer Pieces:

~ I discovered Clara Sunwoo this summer thanks to a blog post by Susan of Fifty Not Frumpy. She bought this top in red and looked totally gorgeous in it. It took me about 60 seconds for me to decide to buy one for myself. Shop My Fair Lady for a great selection and great customer service.

~ This Stella Carakasi Take Note Vest in white is lightweight, breezy and the perfect summer piece. It can be worn a variety of ways and even has a hood. I wore this all white look to the PopUp Dinner in Glen Ellen last May. This may be my favorite summer look! I can also wear it into fall with a bit of layering.

~ I love this lightweight and flirty floral kimono from Jacket Society. Nora, who is the owner of Jacket Society and also a blogger, has a lovely selection of jackets, scarves and jewelry. I’m looking forward to seeing what she has for us for fall!
