Welcome to the 50th post in the How I Wear My series!
This month’s theme is tassel! The hottest days of the year call for lightweight—and maybe lighthearted!—dressing, so Jill of Everything Just So and I thought September’s “How I Wear My” could use the pure fun that a tassel represents.
Jill says, “Nora always has the best jewelry on her site (and in her photos) and I fell for this tasseled and bejeweled number at first sight! I’m wearing it with a cardigan by Anthropologie and an ombre tank by Old Navy.”
What a fantastic piece and such a stylish look on Jill!
Suzanne from Suzanne Carillo styles a necklace she made herself. Did you know Suzanne makes jewelry? It’s true! Suzanne is so talented and this tassel necklace is stunning. The combination of cobalt with the black and pewter is eye-catching, especially with Suzanne’s gorgeous hair.
Tamera from Tamera Beardsley tells us she is a lover of tassels and has been for over a year now. Here she’s wearing a tassel belt that she designed. She says, “It was the perfect finish for my vintage kimono, giving an older piece just the right amount of new trend. I always try to balance a vintage piece with a modern nod to keep it from feeling like a costume.”
Glamorous as always! What a great styling tip too, Tamera.
Merci from Chic on Thrift wears the only tassel item for this month’s How I Wear My post. She says, “I have worn it before in warm weather and I find it also well suited for cooler weather. It is a hand down from Mom and that makes it more special!”
Yes, it does! And it’s also special because it’s the only tasseled skirt we have in the post.
Shelbee of Shelbee on the Edge is a brand new blogger! Do pop over to her new site and welcome her!
Shelbee says, “I chose a silver tassel necklace which I recently purchased at Cato Fashions. I am really loving the longer length chains with a statement piece on the end, especially with simple tee shirts. I think it really dresses up a more casual look. I am also wearing a pumpkin colored dolman sleeve tee from Old Navy and a butterfly kimono that I picked up this summer at Ross Dress for Less. I paired these with a pair of lace trimmed high rise denim short shorts from Target and cream crochet sandals from Payless (not seen in this photo).”
The tassel necklace really brings this look together. And what a stylish transitional outfit as fall approaches.
Malia of Style by Malia shows us a tassel look that works for the office or going out to dinner. She says, “I am building my fall wardrobe out and this Ashley Stewart dress was a MUST. I love the neutral colors. I also love this earthy tassel bracelet and necklace from Sweetland Designs that I had to have in my accessory cabinet!”
That’s right. This tassel bracelet is also a necklace! My friend, Lawana Sweetland, made it with howlite beads and a black suede tassel and it is gorgeous!
Trina from Tea Time With Trina shows us a boho look for fall with her tassel necklace.
She tells us, “I’m really embracing the tassel craze this season, which is simply by adding a fun tassel necklace to an outfit. I feel this just fits the bohemian feel free look and attitude to the T. It’s simple yet adds just the right amount of edge to give an outfit a whole new level!”
I love the boldness of the tassel necklace! It really works with the dramatic top and cool floppy hat.
Alice of Happiness at Mid-Life also wears a stylish boho look with her tassel. She says, “Tassels are such a great way to add some fun to an outfit. Here I am wearing tassel necklace & bracelets from Purple Peridot with my maxi dress.”
What a feminine and colorful tassel outfit!
Molly, my friend and real estate agent with Century 21, joins us this month and says, “A few years ago my sister, Amy Wall, had a shop in Mendocino called Mendocino Beauty in her shop and she had earrings similar to these for sale. The earrings she had for sale were designed and made by Hook & Loop jewelry company. They were my inspiration for making my own!
I handmade these beauties with high quality embroidery thread and silver earring hooks. Honestly the look, feeling and quality of H&L earrings are superior to mine. However, my version of the earring is fun, flirty, and easy. I really enjoy wearing them. I love that I was able to recreate a similar earring for a fraction of the cost. This is something I’ve always loved doing, recreating my own version of an inspiration piece. The idea of “the rich life on a budget” is me to a tee!”
I love that Molly made her own version of a design she loved! The tassel earrings are fantastic and such a great length with Molly’s hair.
She said, “Neons are in full force this summer and I decided to share a tassel necklace that I made to match my neon yellow and hot pink outfit.”
A fun summer look and so vibrant! Thank you for sharing your how-to with us, Carrie.
Glenda from So What To Twenty styles an outfit featuring a wonderful tasseled bucket bag. She tells us, “Typically I live by the rule of wearing one statement piece at a time. However, with this look, I trusted my gut and went with two – my sandals and handbag – both beaded and both give a nod to the Native American culture. You’ll see by pairing the two statement pieces with solid garments in complimenting tones, the outfit, though subtle in details, somehow manages to give a gentle punch of individuality. Also, notice how the shape of the bag mimics the shape of the skirt.”
California Cool! Love your look, Glenda.
Dale from Savvy Spice wears double the tassels in this boho look. She says, “When I spotted this flowy floral blouse at Zara, I instantly loved the gold tassel detail. I paired it with my 70’s style flared jeans and sunshine yellow ‘Adora by Adrienne’ bag I’ll definitely be carrying this fall which has a leather tassel, too!”
I adore the brilliant pop of yellow and the blouse with tassels is great for fall. Those wonderful colors look fantastic on Dale!
Jane from Toronto Shopoholic wears a look featuring a tassel on her handbag. This navy blue handbag is from J. Crew. She says, “The bag also comes with a large tassel which can be removed if you like but I am all for the tassel look.”
Same here! I love a good tassel on a handbag especially when it’s big and dramatic like Jane’s.
Nora from Jacket Society tells us, “I am wearing our Ivory vest over a Zara graphic top, Rag & Bone jeans, Zara lace up heels and a brown clutch. I have added another one of our brand new necklaces with tassel detail also available on the website.”
Very chic street style, Nora! I imagine that necklace goes with just about every outfit.
Ana from Mrs. American Made says of her tassel look, “I have a classic jeans and navy blazer #madeinUSA outfit worn with a Trina Turk silk print top and colorful scarf. The vibe of this whole outfit seemed classic and proper so I pulled out my vintage leather Coach satchel but I added a pop of color and touch of ‘trend’ with a leather tassel by Elke.”
A contrasting tassel really draws in one’s attention! Great styling idea, Ana.
Linda of A Labour of Life is a ray of sunshine in her tassel look. She says, “Pairing a tassel necklace with a bright yellow dress from Old Navy and a flowy kimono creates that notice-me-at-the-office look!”
Linda must have brightened everyone’s day at the office in this look. I love it!
I love tassels and have quite a few of them, mostly in the form of jewelry but my Adora bags have them too.
Here I’m wearing one of my most anticipated pieces for fall! This Take Note Vest from Stella Carakasi and their newest fall collection will be available on the Stella site this Saturday, September 12th*.
I am crazy about the olive green color of this Take Note Vest. And it’s so versatile. It can be worn a variety of ways – opened, fastened and with the hood up.
I also wore my tassel necklace, by Sweetland Designs.
Which is both a necklace and a wrap bracelet! Just like the one Malia is wearing in her tassel look.
The necklace features gorgeous Carnelian beads and has a big leather tassel in a lovely rich chocolate color. I plan on wearing this piece often this fall. I love all the shades of cognac and deep browns.
What a great roundup of stylish looks! I love how we have so many creative women making and designing beautiful things in this month’s post. It’s inspiring!
Thank you to all the participants and to each of you who help keep How I Wear My going after all these months – and years. And thank you to Jill for many, many months of collaboration. Here’s to 50 more posts!

And now for October’s theme! A terrific transitional piece as the seasons begin to change is the poncho or wrap. You can wear it at the beach to take in that last summer sunset, or you can wear it to a romantic dinner to add an element of elegance to your ensemble.
