July Fun!

July Fun!

Here it is August already! I can’t believe how quickly July came and went. For me this month seemed like non-stop entertainment, for which I am so grateful. So much July Fun!

I enjoyed lots of time with friends, took in wonderful culture, food and wine at Festival Napa Valley – which I will tell you all about in a future post – and traveled to Tahoe to see an outdoor concert.

Chrissy, whom I have known since we were 14-years-old growing up in Las Vegas, flew up from Vegas for a visit. I had such a great time showing her around Sonoma Valley. We went out to dinner at Aventine in Glen Ellen the first night, then spent some time in Sonoma the following day.

July Fun

Chrissy loves dogs, especially Golden Retrievers and just got a new Golden puppy a couple of months ago. Our Golden, Murphy, loved having Chrissy here and was delighted to get lots and lots of attention from her. He was just one of the girls – even taking selfies with hats on in our living room.

What instigated Chrissy’s trip was the concert tour of one of our favorite performers, Sting. Chrissy and I were obsessed with The Police in high school and have enjoyed Sting’s long musical career over the decades. Peter Gabriel is another favorite of ours so when Chrissy found out the two were touring together, we knew we had to get tickets. With Chrissy’s birthday in mid-July, it was the perfect way to celebrate!

Lake Tahoe was the ideal location for us – small, outdoors and with great weather. We booked a hotel room at Harvey’s, where the concert took place. This was the view of the venue from our room.

Before the concert, we changed into our concert outfits – we both wore jeans, flat sandals, short-sleeved tops and open-front ponchos  – grabbed a bite to eat and got ourselves some cold drinks.

The concert was amazing, every single minute of it! I think it may be the best concert I have ever been to. Such talented performers, both of them.

I loved that it was outdoors and not tens of thousands of people either.

The next day, we packed up our things and hit the road. Chrissy was flying back to Las Vegas from the Oakland Airport the next day and we had lots of driving to do!

Such a fun time and I am happy to say we’re doing it again this month! Only this time I am going to Las Vegas to see the G0-Go’s perform at Mandalay Bay with Chrissy and a group of friends from high school. I can hardly wait!

More July fun happened last Saturday when my friend Michelle and I attend the annual fundraising event for Pets Lifeline in Sonoma, Paws for a Cause.

This event raises money for cats and dogs in need in Sonoma Valley. Funds raised go toward sheltering, adoptions, rehabilitation, community programs, food, medical care and humane education. This event takes place in the Carneros region of Sonoma at the beautiful Vintage Kennel Club.

When we arrived, the first thing we did after checking in is visit the animals. There were camels like this little one, who thought Michelle’s cute straw handbag was delicious!

And this very large camel who did not hesitate taking a carrot out of my hand!

There was a big momma pig, due to have her piglets any day now and these darling goats with curly coats.

There were also lots of cute kitties. This little girl was found in the driveway of Pets Lifeline recently with her paw severely injured. Pets Lifeline provided medical care for this darling kitten and she’s not only well on her way to recovery, but she has already been adopted and will be going to her new forever home soon.

The barn at Vintage Kennel Club is beautiful, charming and spacious. Along with a long table in the middle of the barn, there were VIP tables in each of the stalls.

There was also a huge tent with more tables and a large reception area where guests could get a glass of wine and bid on the many silent auction items.

Guests received an email days before the event suggesting “Barn Chic” as our attire. Michelle wore a darling outfit with an off-the-shoulder top, floral print prairie skirt and black cowboy boots. Here she is trying to run away from my camera. Lucky for me, she wasn’t fast enough!

I wore girlfriend jeans, blue cowboy booties, a navy camisole and a floral kimono with a long tassel necklace.

We sat with our friend Gary who owns Out in the Vineyard, a Wine Country Tour and Event company that promotes positive LGBT lifestyles and offers exclusive, luxury itineraries and events to the discerning gay and lesbian traveler. Michelle and I always love spending time with Gary and were thrilled to be seated together.

Our table was lots of fun. I enjoyed seeing friends and meeting a few new folks, too!

The dinner by Stellar Catering was absolutely delicious! I guess I was too busy wolfing it down to remember to take photos until the end when the ice cream cups arrived.

July sure was jam-packed with fun. I anticipate August to be quieter with only a couple of events planned and lots blogging ahead of me…including more on our Girlfriends Getaway in Healdsburg and this month’s How I Wear My.

Which reminds me to remind you that the theme for August is Cropped Pants. Style your capri pants, culottes, cropped flares, clam diggers, gauchos or pedal pushers and send us a photo to be featured! The deadline for submission is August 8th, 2016.

Send your photo, along with a blurb about your outfit – which we will quote in our posts – to howiwearmy@yahoo.com.  Jill and I can’t wait to see how you wear your cropped pants!

The concert and the concert coming up, both sound fantastic. I love the Go-Go’s and of course Sting. You really had such a wonderful July and again, I’m always so amazed at how much the wine country has to offer in the way of culture and fun, besides great food and wine.

It’s true…there is always something fun going on around here. Especially from about April through October. It’s not easy to keep your weight where you want it with all this lovely food and wine around!

You and Chrissy look so great Adrienne and I can’t believe it’s Aug. either! The concert looked so fun in Tahoe and I’m sure you’ll have a blast in Vegas this month. I need to check out your Healdsburg getaway post now. 🙂

It was such a fun month – went by like a flash! Hoping August slows down a little – so far, so good! xo
