4 Casual Ways to Wear a Long Vest

4 Casual Ways to Wear a Long Vest

Happy September!

It’s the transitional time of year when many of us are reaching for fall sweaters one day, then throwing on our favorite sundress in an effort to stay cool the next.

I find certain outer layer wardrobe pieces like light jackets and sweaters, wraps and ponchos key for making a stylish transition into cooler weather.

This season I am adding long vests to that list. Long vests are stylish, flattering and modern. And they’re also fun to style!

This In Conclusion Vest by Stella Carakasi, a piece from Stella’s Early Fall 2016 Collection, is the newest addition to my fall wardrobe. I was inspired to create a handful of outfits with it that will transition well from the warm temperatures of September and early October here in Northern California into mid-autumn’s chill.

Today I am showing you 4 casual ways to wear a long vest. In this first outfit, I wore my long vest with an Effortless Top in the same Moss color as the vest. I wore my new cropped flare jeans that have a bit of fringe at the ankle. And I accessorized with a geode necklace by Janet Harrer.

I love the way this vest is cut high in the back with long panels in the front, adding an architectural surprise to this vest. And it has side pockets!

The crinkled fabric is ideal for those of you who, like me, don’t enjoy ironing. Made with 50% cotton, 47% nylon, 3% metal  – yes, metal! – it’s machine washable,  and perfect for travel. You really can’t get much more low maintenance than this fabric.

I wanted to add a pop of vibrant color to this look so I chose my favorite block-heel blue sandals by Louise et Cie and carried my newest handbag, sent to me recently by my friends at Adora and Armadio. What a beautiful surprise!

Armadio Augusta Bag

The Augusta bag is handcrafted in Florence by Patrizia Sassetti. Large enough to fit everything I need when I am out and about – including my camera and a notebook – it’s also small enough to be carried as a handbag,

The Augusta bag is stylish, classic and made with fine Italian leather. Augusta comes in a variety of beautiful colors. I am so in to shades of blue these days and am crazy about this Petrol Blue col0r.

Made to order in Tuscany, these bags take five weeks to receive. This is the sort of bag you keep for a lifetime. See the entire collection at Armadio, including some of my longtime favorites from Adora.

Speaking of Adora, I incorporated my black Adora bag into my second look. This is my dressiest look of the four and is an outfit I would wear in the evening to a party or out to dinner.

Working with only two colors – Moss and black – I layered my long vest with a black Effortless Tee, wore Miz Mooz block heeled sandals (similar), and a black velveteen choker. I also wore a large onyx statement ring.

For my next look, I went very casual. I wore my long vest with a Lesley Evers top, girlfriend jeans, thong sandals (similar) and I carried my go-to neutral handbag.

I added my new KayandStar necklace, a geode slice on a beaded chain. This an out-to-lunch-with-a-friend or errand-running outfit.

My final long vest look is one I wear when it’s just too warm for jeans. These white linen blend pants have really gotten a workout this summer!

I wore my white pants with a white Covered Perfectly top, cognac gladiator sandals and carried my Mulberry Bayswater bag (similar).

With this much versatility, my long vest will surely carry me well into the fall season and beyond.

I really love those cropped flare jeans on you, Adrienne. The moss colour of the vest goes with a ton of colours, doesn’t it? But my favourite is the first outfit, with the moss coloured tee and that fabulous blue bag. Hope you’re having a wonderful long Labour Day weekend. It’s sunny and a perfect 23 Celsius here in Ottawa… and I’m about to log some major book time on our deck:)

Love the moss vest with those adorable frayed hem jeans!! Where are those jeans from? I’m always on the look out for great jeans and those are super cute! And those blue shoes and blue bag top off the look beautifully! What a great new color from Adora. Love the vest with all black, too. The choker looks great and is such a fun accessory! Fun post!

      Hi April,

The jeans are from Old Navy – I bought them in the light wash and in a slightly darker shade. They are pretty stretchy and run a little on the big side.
Thanks for stopping by! Hope you’re doing great. xo
