Favorite Outfits of Summer 2016

Fall officially arrives this Thursday, September 22nd, at 7:21 a.m. PST. Can you believe summer is almost over?

As I started to put away some of my summer clothes and bring out my fall pieces from last year, I thought about what my favorite outfits of Summer 2016 have been. I compiled a list of my most memorable summer outfits and pieces that I am sure to wear again next summer.

Lesley Evers Maxi Dress

This dress just says summertime to me. I have had it for two summers now and love it as much as I did the day I bought it at Lesley Ever’s boutique in Corte Madera. I wore it to Festival Napa Valley’s brunch at Auberge du Soleil in July.

Printed Pastel Maxi Dress

I bought this Melissa McCarthy maxi dress a couple of months ago and it quickly became one of my favorites. I wore it during the girlfriends’ getaway weekend in Healdsburg in July. The weather is still so summer like, I am sure I will wear it one or two more times before storing it away until next year.

Printed Casual Dress 

In early August I added this colorful dress from Old Navy to my wardrobe. With its bold print, it requires very little styling. I just add my favorite summery sandals, a leather cuff and a straw hat and I am good to go!

Black Shirt Dress

This black shirt dress is still on high rotation in my closet. I styled it six ways in this post and I am sure I will come up with even more outfits featuring this Old Navy dress as we head into the cooler temperatures of fall.

Casual Off-the-shoulder Top

As I am sure you noticed, shoulder-baring tops were a huge fashion hit this summer. I added half a dozen or so to my summer wardrobe. This striped cotton off-the-shoulder top from Gap was one of my favorites. I bought it in navy blue too. I loved when it was cool enough to wear this top with mid-rise flared jeans. I elongated my look by adding a long tassel necklace by KayandStar.

July Fourth Outfit Ideas

Lace Off-the-shoulder Top 

Another off-the-shoulder top I bought in multiples is this lacey number. Along with this pink shade, I have it in white and black. I love the way this top instantly dresses up jeans and slacks.

White Linen Pants

These white linen blend pants were my go-to pants all summer long. I am going to miss wearing them this fall! I wore these wide-legged pants here with a white Stella Carakasi buttoned blouse…

And here with a soft gray tank and lightweight sweater, also by Stella Carakasi, during the early, cooler part of summer.

How I Wear My Pearls

I also wore my white pants with a purple top. I rarely wear bright purple but I love this top’s ruffles and its off-the-shoulder style. And I thought it looked great with my white pants and straw hat.

I have to mention that this bone-colored Kate Spade bag, which got a lot of play this summer, was definitely an outfit saver. When I didn’t know what bag would look best with my look, I defaulted to this one every time.

    Your outfits look great and you’re way more adventurous than me. I wore cropped jeans, in white and a lighter blue wash, with linen tops all summer long. I try to change things up with shoes and a bag, but I’m becoming more and more of a uniform dresser. Bought one maxi dress, never wore and gave it to my daughter.

      I would have lived in shorts, jeans white summer pants all summer if I hadn’t had to get creative due to attending lots of events. On my regular days just staying home and working or out running errands I mostly wore jeans or shorts and some kind of lightweight tunic. I am really looking forward to sweater and boot season. It will be a bit longer for that – we are expecting near 100 temps this weekend. Ugh!

    Ooh, that scarf is gorgeous! And everyone looks great. Such a surprise to see how everyone wore their yellow and it was a tough one for me to think about. Thanks to you ladies for always coming up with great challenges! Can’t wait to hear about the cheese. Was it YELLOW?
