One question I get asked frequently by people visiting Wine Country is: “What do I wear?”
Of course, the answer is never straightforward. The season, your specific plans, your personal style, and even your age can be factors.
While I do subscribe to the belief that the best outfit is one you feel great wearing, no matter your age, I also know that as a woman fast approaching 50, I naturally lean toward certain styles and outfits over others. Just as a 20 or 30-year-old woman would.
I love showing how I dress in Wine Country at midlife. Wouldn’t it be fun to team up with a blogger from a younger generation to show how she would also dress for Wine Country? That’s what today’s post is all about: “How to Dress in Wine Country at Any Age.”
Mallory of Vineliving and I have partnered to show how we style outfits for certain situations or occasions, beginning with Labor Day BBQ looks.
I met Mallory earlier this summer while visiting a winery in Napa Valley where she is the Wine Club and Events Manager. I was writing a story about the winery for my blog and Mallory was our gracious and knowledgable host. She mentioned she was also a Wine Country lifestyle blogger, which I was elated to learn. Suddenly we had a slew of other things to discuss aside from wine.
Mallory’s blog focuses on what to wear in Wine Country and where to wear it. As a Millennial, some of her looks differ from what I would wear, while others definitely fit my current style.
You may recall seeing Mallory in last month’s How I Wear My: Sundress, Romper or Jumpsuit. She is Wine Country perfection in this striped romper look.
Mallory is a Napa Valley native who seems to know just about everyone in Wine Country. She planned a pre-Labor Day barbecue for us at her friends’ home last week where we enjoyed a fabulous meal in a gorgeous setting.
Also in attendance was Mallory’s husband and mine, our friend and fellow blogger Melissa, and Andy, a Napa Valley photographer, who came with his wife and son.
Mallory put together a healthy and delicious meal for us that included fresh salmon, chicken breast, pork and veggies as well as salads and some refreshing rosé wine.
My Labor Day BBQ outfit included a new pair of skinny jeans from Gap that have just the right amount of stretch. I wore a Stella Carakasi tank in Pimento from their just released Early Fall Collection and over that, I added a tasseled shawl, a gift from Soft Surroundings (similar).
A leather tassel and beaded necklace from KayandStar goes perfectly with the shawl and tank. It really brings out the blue shades in the pattern.
The shawl adds color, texture and interest and I like that it gives me the choice of going bare-armed or not. Plus it adds a little extra warmth when the temps dip way down in the evening, as they almost always do each evening in Wine Country.
Be sure to head over to Mallory’s blog, Vineliving, to see how she styled her Labor Day BBQ look!
Disclosure: The Soft Surroundings shawl was sent to me as a gift. The Stella Carakasi tank was given to me in exchange for coverage. The B.R. Cohn products were also sent to me in exchange for coverage. All opinions expressed here are my own, as always.
