It’s the weekend and time for this week’s Seven for Saturday!
Here’s what’s been happening around here lately:
1 ~ Pruning Party at Beltane Ranch
Last Saturday’s Pruning Party & Pig Roast at Beltane Ranch was such a blast! I think I finally got pruning vines down but I am far from an expert and am pretty sure no vineyard owner would want me out there cutting their vines.
We not only pruned part of the Zinfandel vineyard but we sipped wonderful Beltane Ranch wines, ate wonderful food including handmade sopas and tortillas, ranch beans, ceviche and roasted pig and had lots of laughs.
The mariachi band that performed at last year’s pruning party returned to delight the crowd. They are all so talented and the lead singer is not only entertaining but has a fantastic voice.
I decided to dress up a bit for my pruning gig and wore my leather and pearl necklace made by my friend Elizabeth Wilmore (you can see Elizabeth in the photos below – she is wearing a black puffer jacket and rain boots).
After the party was over, some friends came over the house. We finally got to really break in that new couch of ours. We ordered take out Italian food, talked for hours, played with our dogs and listened to music. It was such a fun Saturday!
Here are a few of my favorite photos from the party:
2 ~ More Hummingbirds in my Kitchen Window
I love watching the hummingbirds in my window so much, I added another feeder this week. They were polishing off the original one in less than 24 hours so I thought it might be a good idea to have a back up for them in case I can’t get to it in time.
When the new feeders arrived, my husband referred to me as The Crazy Hummingbird Lady and I guess I have to agree with him. When I start giving them names, that’s when we might have to start worrying 😉
3 ~ Hiding Cameras
I follow my friend and social media expert Kerry Rego on Facebook. The other day, I watched a video Kerry shared about whether or not you should cover the camera on your computer and smart devices. The video and Kerry both recommend covering it up. I never use my laptop’s camera so why take the chance?
I can’t tell you how many times I have thought about covering it up with tape yet I never took two minutes to go to the garage for electrical tape. When Kerry suggested to her followers that they use this product instead, I decided to spend a few bucks and get a set.
They arrived quickly – thanks to Prime – and I applied them last night. The gadget has the ability to slide so if I do decide to use my laptop’s camera, I can just move the button over. Much better than electrical tape anyway!
I also put one on the selfie camera on my phone. Since I do use the selfie camera, I will be sliding the button over from time to time.
I feel a bit safer already, thanks to Kerry. Now I need to change all my passwords. I am long overdue!
4 ~ Snow in Kenwood
Finally, winter has arrived here in wine country! It’s been cold, by our standards, for a couple of weeks and now with the added precipitation, we ended up with a little snow in the hills near our house.
It’s not much but still exciting for us snow-deprived Sonoma County residents!
5 ~ Social Media Usage
In last week’s Saturday post, I mentioned wanting to curb my social media usage. I decided I would try a 7:00 am to 7:00 pm structure for a week and see if that helped. Some days I adhered to the hours and some days I didn’t.
Regardless of whether I used social media from 7 to 7 or not, my interaction with it remained unchanged when I did engage, despite being more aware of my usage. That surprised me.
Time for some fresh ideas! I went looking, online of course, for a book on the subject. It arrived a couple days ago. I am engrossed in the novel I’m reading right now but as soon as I am done with it, How To Break Up With Your Phone is my next read.
I’ll let you know what I find out!
6 ~ Lash Upkeep
It’s been a long time since I got my set of lash extensions at Lashey Lady Studio. I thought I’d keep them going only through the holidays but I love them so much, I decided to keep them at least until after my stepkids’ weddings this spring – one in April (coming up fast!) and one in early June.
I take very good care of my lashes everyday and I get them filled every 2 1/2 weeks. I thought I would dread getting them filled but I actually look forward to my appointments. It’s relaxing! The bed is comfy and it has a heater. The music is soothing and my lash expert, Alex, is gentle and makes sure I am comfortable at all times.
What I like most about having lash extensions is they make getting ready so much easier. With lashes, I just need to throw on some light foundation, add a couple swooshes of blush, fill my brows, and apply a coat of lipgloss and I am good to go!
7 ~ Instant Pot Class
I love my Instant Pot but I am in an IP rut. I use it over and over again for the same things – yogurt and shredded chicken breasts. It’s time to up my Instant Pot game!
That is just what I am doing today at Ramekins Culinary School in Sonoma. I am heading there this afternoon to join 30+ others in learning some new IP tricks. This class is taught by my friend Chef Hollie Greene. Check my Instagram stories later if you’re curious to see what we’re up to!
Enjoy your weekend!
