How I Wear My Boho

Happy April, friends! And welcome to the 57th post in the How I Wear My series!

Jill of Everything Just So and I thought there was no better way to shed winter’s layers than to devote this month’s “How I Wear My” to a style that seems especially made for warmer months—boho!

Jill starts us off with her boho look and tells us, “I am wearing a black textured and fringed poncho a friend bought for me in a little shop in Queens, a Jacket Society tassel necklace that I just love, and my YSL Tribute tote. I do not consider myself a boho gal so I added two other accessories that made the outfit feel more like me–a leopard cuff from La Crasia and a red Timex watch.”

Such Boho Glam! I love Jill’s tassel necklace which looks fantastic against her fringed poncho.

Tamera of Tamera Beardsley says, “As someone who loves to layer and mix eclectic items, Boho dressing is a joyful endeavor for me. Especially when I can top it all off with a flower crown for good measure!”

Tamara looks like she stepped out of the pages of a fashion magazine. Such a great Boho look!

Rena of It’s all Fine. Whatever tickles the fancy. says, “Boho is such a great way to kick off spring and transition from winter. Loose and flowy pants, cork wedge sandals, and lacey top make up my boho look. The brightly colored pants are a little outside my comfort zone but these are SO comfortable and I feel fabulous while wearing them. When this photo was taken, The Husband and I were headed to a matinee showing at a West LA playhouse which we followed with dinner on Melrose and then a friend’s gallery opening in Hollywood.”

Southern California Boho chic featuring both comfort and style!

Cheryl of Northwest Mountain Living says, “I was a teenager in the 70s and I embraced the fashion of time. Today, my closet is full of items with a bohemian flare. In this outfit I am wearing a Free People top, American Eagle jeans, mules and a floppy hat. It takes me back in time.”

A nod to the past but oh so modern and on-trend!

cheryl-boho

Greetje of No Fear of Fashion says, “I am not a Boho-style woman (at all), but I do have one ever so boho top I love to share. I just couldn’t resist it when I found it in Spain. My husband thinks it is a bit common. ha ha. I don’t care. Even if it is an acquired taste, I like it, so I’ll wear it!”

I fell in love with Greetje’s tunic and want one just like it! I love the lace detail – especially around the bottom of the top – and the way Greetje styled it with jeans and flats.

How I Wear My Boho

Suzanne of Suzanne Carillo says, “Boho is really one of my signature styles. Here I’m wearing a Mod Cloth dress.  I fell in love with the graphics which have both a squirrel and a fox on it. It is wonderfully comfortable and features sheer arms.”

What a fun dress! So whimsical and I love Suzanne’s floppy hat.

Alice of Happiness at Mid-Life says, “I recently purchased this crochet sweater vest from Old Navy and added the turquoise ring to add more boho vibe to the look.”

A great casual Boho look from Alice. I love black and camel together and the turquoise ring is lovely pop of color!

Nancy of Fashionandfoodandotherstuff from the Netherlands tells us, “I never wore anything bohemian but recently I’m adoring the maxi dress. This is my version of bohemian.”

Such a beautiful and feminine Boho dress on Nancy. The wide belt and tall boots give this look a little extra edginess!

nancy-boho

Linda of A Labour of Life tells us, “This pair of boots From Shoe Dazzle are over-the-knee and have awesome ties, similar to something I spotted on Debbie from Fashion Fairy Dust. Debbie does the Boho look so well and I figured what the heck, I like the look so lets give it a go! I paired with this duster I found at Target last May. I believe the lace up boots just add an extra oomph.”

Linda’s duster is gorgeous! I love the long fringe and high-low structure. Great find, Linda!

Jordan of Kay and Star wears pieces from the Kay and Star line. Jordan’s mother, Julie, tells us, “Jordan and I both love Boho which is how we began our business. A couple of years back I was always looking for long necklaces to
wear with tunics – I couldn’t find any I liked, so I made a few and Jordan loved them too. We just started making and selling to friends and had so much fun we opened our etsy shop and still love creating new designs – all with a Boho look.”

Since I discovered Kay and Star my outfits have had much more of a Boho flavor thanks to their stylish collection. Jordan wears Boho so well, she’s one of my Boho style inspirations!

Beth of Tall Fashion Adventures says “I’m new to the Boho scene and was excited to piece together this look out of items in my closet. I undid all but a few of the buttons on my mixed print floral maxi which turns it into a flowy, longline vest of sorts. I’m wearing tights and a slip dress underneath and completed the look with Chelsea ankle boots, a long mixed metal necklace and a denim jacket. Can’t wait to wear this look on a chilly spring day!”

What a clever way to wear a dress! It’s sort of like a long vest now and the tiny floral pattern is so on-trend Boho.

Tall Fashion Adventures Boho Look

Yvonne of FunkyForty says, “My favorite Boho look right now is made up of the fabulous Philosophy pieces I found just last week. I love wearing flared jeans and will only ever wear them extra long with huge heels underneath – it’s my way of pretending I am tall – Ha Ha – all the same, a game anyone can play and I suggest you try it too!”

Great point, Yvonne! Wearing flared jeans is a great excuse to pull out the high heels and add some extra inches to your height.

Cari, a reader from Alberta, Canada says, “What I like about this outfit is the comfort of soft cotton garments and the way the patterns and colors of the blouse and skirt complement each other. These type of prints are my alternative to floral patterns, which I tend to avoid. Due to a couple decades of structural expansion and settling I had also been avoiding belts but since I started reading tips in “Over 40/50 style blogs” I am okay trying out even this fairly bold leather waist-definer. The hemline called for wedge shoes in a neutral tone to help elongate my legs. At 5’2” that is always appreciated. And what better reason to grab a hat than for styling Boho!”

Structural expansion – I love it! Cari shows us excellent pattern mixing with her Boho look. And the belt is fantastic. I see no structural expansion whatsoever!

Celina of Celina’s Look Book wears denim shorts for her spring in Florida and says, “I think a kimono is an easy way to add some style and fun to an otherwise simple outfit.”

Like long necklaces and flared jeans, a kimono is another key piece in a Boho wardrobe.

Celina-boho

Ana of Mrs. American Made tells us, “I live in a very boho-friendly town with a serious college scene and a strong hippie history, but somehow I have not fully embraced this fashion trend. It seems as though I have pieces here and there in my wardrobe that hint a boho vibe, but these examples are the closest I came to a full outfit! This #madeinUSA blanket sweater by Dolan gets many a compliment around town. But I tend to wear this boho piece with simpler items such as this black sheath dress and dark tights and boots.”

Cool weather Boho, perfect for spring in Colorado!

Dawn Lucy of Fashion Should Be Fun says, “I’m wearing a Free People ‘shark bite’ skirt, Carlos Santana fringe bag, with a Lucky brand denim jacket, Vince Camuto booties, and my cool red sandalwood Jord watch.”

Dawn Lucy is ready for spring in her Boho look. Her skirt is beautiful and looks fantasic with the wedge booties.

Nora of Jacket Society wears a Boho Navy Print Poncho and Boho Raspberry Print Poncho from her shop and says, “I am wearing two of our brand new spring Ponchos with Rag and Bone skinny jeans, Zara platforms, Gucci bag, Jacket Society necklace and bracelet.”

Isn’t it interesting how color changes the look of an outfit. Lovely poncho, Nora!

Jacqueline of Petite Silver Vixen tells us, “Boho isn’t a look I naturally gravitate to.  I like it on other people but it’s not a natural fit on me.  However, I like elements of the style such as unusual prints, the ethnic-inspired jewellery and the textures associated with Boho such as denim, suede and velvet.  Here’s my interpretation of How I Wear My: Boho with a look that I call Modern Boho Chic. No denim flares, instead a loose fitting, flowing denim duster coat paired with an A-line denim skirt for a little double denim, chunky jewellery and of course, the obligatory sprinkling of suede fringing on my bag and boots!”

For those who don’t lean toward Boho style, this look from Jacqueline shows that with just a few added touches – a little fringe, some denim and a cool piece of jewelry – you can do a modern Boho look that is on the subtle side.

Nicole of High Latitude Style says, “I am not into the Bohemian trend. I created this outfit as a style challenge or like a homework assignment in a ‘Yes, I can do this’ attitude. The tunic is burgundy silk that is hand-painted in gold. I have a matching pair of pants and wore the entire outfit to a Diwali party I was invited to. I got the ensemble as a hand-me-down from my BFF’s sister. I never tossed it as I like the artistic painting, cut and color.”

What a gorgeous burgundy color. A tunic is a Boho chic staple!

HighLatitudeStyle-boho

Trina of Tea Time With Trina tell us, “This look is just a a fun Boho look I like to put together for a dinner date.  I throw on this fringe kimono over a funky tee and leggings, add some funky boots, a floppy hat and I’m good to go!”

Trina shows us a Boho outfit doesn’t have to be difficult to put together. Just a few Boho pieces added to a tee and jeans and you’ve got a stylish Boho look.

Trina-boho

For my Boho look I decided to try something new – but it’s really something old. I am wearing 70s style High-Rise Vintage Flare Jeans.  I can’t remember the last time I wore flared jeans and actually liked them on me. Elementary school, perhaps?

I love the high waist on these jeans and the 1% Spandex gives them just the right amount of give without stretching out too much.

I bought the ‘tall’ length and needed a little extra heel height in order to walk in them, if you can believe that (I’m 6’2″!). So I wore my peep-toe booties (similar) which give me an extra 3 inches.

How I Wear My Boho

With my flares I wore an Equal Parts Vest by Stella Carakasi which I layered over their Modernist Tank, both in Whisper, a beautiful light lilac shade for spring.

The vest combines sweater-knit with sheer georgette front panels, giving it a soft, feminine look.

The sleeveless top is made from Natural Lux™ organic cotton Modal jersey and sheer georgette. It’s so comfortable and soft and has an diagonal hem.

I couldn’t wear a Boho look without some Kay and Star! I wore a leather tassel necklace with an Agate pendant in a caramel color that works nicely with the light pastel shade of my Stella pieces. A cognac fringe bag round out my Boho look.

This has been such a fun post to put together with so many stylish Boho looks! Thank you to all the participants for showing us how they wear their Boho.

One Trend, Two Generations: Boho Necklaces

If you’ve been reading my blog for some time you may already be familiar with One Trend, Two Generations fashion posts. I started doing these posts them with my stepdaughter, Tori, three years ago as a way to show how two generations – me in my late 40’s and Tori who is 21 – style a chosen fashion trend. We’ve styled lots of trends over the years including stripes, ponchos, plaid, tunics, denim shorts and more!

We are back again wearing Boho Necklaces from mother and daughter team, Kay and Star. They make stylish necklaces and bracelets that are well-made, on-trend, versatile and priced right!

Julie of Kay and Star sent Tori and me two beautiful leather tassel necklaces in cognac and turquoise shades.

One Trend, Two Generations: Boho Necklaces

Tori starts us off with her look featuring a Boho necklace. She wore a black silky dress with thin straps which she layered over a long-sleeved black tee – her way of wearing a summery dress when it’s still chilly out.

Kay and Star Necklaces

Tall cognac boots with over-the-knee socks look darling look on her. She topped off her outfit with a black felt hat.

Turquoise Boho Necklace

Tori is wearing the Long Earthy Agate Beaded Necklace with Agate Pendant and Leather Tassel. It’s made with 6mm neutral agate beads and is 34″ long. The agate pendant and leather tassel adds 6″.

Turquoise Beaded Necklace

For my look, I created a casual Boho outfit with my Kay and Star necklace. I started with a pair of Gap girlfriend jeans (similar)…

Boho Necklace

and a off-white Niki top by Lesley Evers made in the USA. It’s so soft and versatile. I know this will be my go-to top this spring and summer.

My necklace is the Long Turquoise and Jasper Beaded Necklace which has a large turquoise colored bead at the base that is 20mm round. The length of the beaded necklace is 34″ and the leather tassel adds 5″ to the overall length.

Turquoise Boho Necklace

I wore a peep-toe bootie – the “it” bootie of the season (similar) – and a fringed cardigan that I bought last summer in San Diego (similar). I wanted to add some cognac to my look so I carried my 12-year-old Bayswater Bag by Mulberry.

This is a look I would wear just about anywhere!

Turquoise Boho Necklace

Tori and I both chose to start with simple neutral looks, then added our Kay and Star Boho necklaces for a splash of color.

Boho Necklaces

These necklaces make great gifts for friends and family – I’m thinking Mothers’ Day! I actually gave my mom the same necklace I am wearing. She told me the other day that she wears it almost daily.
