Spring Sweater Four Ways

This time of year in California’s Wine Country it can be cool, overcast and windy one moment and downright hot the next so I rely on light layers to keep me comfortable as we transition into a new season.

My favorite light layer is this Works Every Time Sweater from Stella Carakasi. I have been wearing the daylights out of this sweater since receiving it a few weeks ago.

This versatile sweater is made with a lightweight cotton and nylon blend, has an asymmetrical structure, and includes one dolman sleeve.

I love the neutral Stone color because it goes with just about anything. It’s been the piece I reach for most often these days!

Here are 4 casual Wine Country looks I created with one spring sweater:

Here is an up close look at the sweater. It’s sheer so you need to wear something under it. I love that you can change up the look of this sweater by simply changing the tank underneath.

Here I’m wearing it with a matching Basic Camisole, also from Stella Carakasi.

Spring Sweater Four Looks

It was cool enough the day we visited Long Meadow Ranch in Napa Valley that I could wear my tall lace up boots, black jeans and black pashmina wrap and still be comfortable.

My favorite jewelry to wear with my sweater is a long necklace to break up solidness of the sweater and add some interest.

Spring Sweater Four Looks

To me, this is such an easy and comfortable casual look for this time of year.

For my next look, I dressed up the sweater and I wore it with flowy white pants (on sale for $19!)…

and a beaded faux pearl necklace with a gray leather tassel by Kay and Star.

Next I gave the sweater a Boho vibe by tying a blue bandana around my neck, wearing aviator sunglasses…

and flared jeans.

My jeans are quite long so I have to wear them with a heel. These blue Louise et Cie sandals have a sturdy block heel and they’re less than 3 inches high.

My fourth look includes black cropped pants by Stella Carakasi.

I wore a black camisole underneath this time and added a black velvet choker.

A chunky black shoe with a block heel help to balance the outfit out.

After putting these outfits together with the Works Every Time sweater, I decided I wanted to add another color to my wardrobe and bought the same sweater in Smoky Quartz, a lovely brown shade.

I chose a long camisole to wear underneath this color and paired it with skinny jeans from Gap and cognac sandals. I wore this outfit over the weekend to the Sunset Magazine Celebration in Sonoma that Bill and I went to with our friends, Michelle and Bill. Michelle and I were so excited to try the food at the brand new “the fig rig”, the food truck version of the famous the girl and the fig in Sonoma. It definitely lived up to the fantastic reputation of the girl and the fig!

One of my favorite recent photos is this one Bill took in the vineyard next to Cornerstone where the event took place. Isn’t Michelle’s yellow dress darling? I love it!

Disclosure: I was given the Works Every Time Sweater in Stone as well as the Basic Camisole in Stone. I was also given the Long Camisole in Smokey Quartz – all by Stella Carakasi. I purchased the Works Every Time Sweater in Smokey Quartz. All opinions expressed here are, as always, my own.

One trend two generations Mothers Day

Today I am sharing a special Mother’s Day edition of the One Trend, Two Generations series I have been doing with my stepdaughter, Tori, for the last few years.

One trend two generations Mothers Day

I am a stepmother to her and her two older siblings, Kayla and Ryan. All three are now in their twenties. I have been in their lives since Tori was 4-years-old. How time flies!

They have always sweetly acknowledged me on Mother’s Day as one of their parents and this Mother’s Day is no different. We are celebrating today, Saturday, so that they could be with their mother on Sunday, as they should be.

Tori and I were planning on another One Trend, Two Generations post featuring off-the-shoulder tops and thought Mother’s Day weekend would be the ideal time for this kind of post!

One Trend Two Generations Mothers Day

Tori happened to be housesitting for our friends, Michelle and Bill, who live in an absolutely darling house in Sonoma. They have two cute little black poodles – Murphy and Finnegan – who got along surprisingly well with my Yorkies, Daisy and Coco.

We had a great time playing catch, taking photos, swinging on the porch swing, laying in the hammock, riding around on Michelle’s cute bike and just enjoying their charming Wine Country home.

Tori and I had our outfits planned out until Tori, who had just washed and dried her off-the-shoulder dress by Band of Gypsies, discovered it shrank so much in the length, she couldn’t wear it anymore.

So I had her wear my off-the-shoulder top that I just got at Gap and I wore her dress as a top.

It all worked out in the end but we’re both sad the dress shrank because it was so adorable on her. My Gap top looked pretty darn cute on her too!

Kayla, Tori’s older sister, just happened to be wearing blue as well when she came over for a visit. Although it looks like we planned that, we real didn’t!

I love the off-the-shoulder trend. I think it’s a great way to add a bit of sexiness to your look – no matter what your generation – without showing too much skin.

The only down side for me is having to wear a strapless bra. I really don’t think there is such a thing as a comfortable strapless bra. That might be an oxymoron. I can only wear this trend as long as I can stand the discomfort!

I am very fortunate, not having kids of my own, to have three wonderful stepkids. I am proud and grateful I was able to have a small hand in raising these now adults and am happy to call them special friends.

If you are celebrating this weekend, I hope you have a wonderful Mother’s Day!

And Happy Mother’s Day to my own mother. Many miles separate us but we are together in spirit.
