The Fierce 50 Campaign

I am thrilled and honored to introduce and be part of The Fierce 50 Campaign, where over 50 women over the age of 50 have come together to celebrate and honor one another on this 50th day of the year, February 19th.

The brainchild of Catherine McCormick, this movement highlights the powerful demographic that is women over 50, intends to shifts outdated and inaccurate perceptions of midlife and beyond, and show the world that we are just beginning.

I will be turning 50 this fall and to be included in this movement is like getting an early birthday present from a fabulous group of friends! I was thrilled to be asked. When I once would feel anxiety about turning the page on a new decade, I now feel invigorated, inspired, excited. Being 50 will indeed be fierce!

Meet Tamera Beardsley

Each participant in The Fierce 50 campaign was was paired with another woman. It’s my pleasure to introduce you to my dear friend and fellow blogger Tamera of Tamera Beardsley, whom I would venture most of you are already familiar with. Tamera has a huge following and many loyal readers.

Being Tamera’s partner in this experience has been such a treat! I can’t wait to tell you about her. I’d like to start with what originally drew me to Tamera’s blog back in 2012: her glamorous signature style.

Glamorous Style

I can’t recall the first time I came across Tamera’s blog, but the moment I laid eyes on her gorgeous outfits with the beautiful Southern California backdrops, and of course her beaming smile and jaw-dropping good looks, I was hooked.

Feminine, bold, unique, inspiring, creative, fashion-forward, artistic, and glamorous are all words I use to describe her unforgettable style.

With a background in high fashion jewelry design, her creations gracing the pages of many fashion magazines, it’s no surprise Tamera has a style that gets noticed.

Everything she does, she does with passion, style and flair. From her magnificent mother-of-the-bride ensemble to something as simple as preparing a cocktail for a guest in her home, Tamera puts her unique and always gorgeous touch on everything she does.

She intentionally seeks out, creates and surrounds herself with beauty. Tamera has a gorgeous aesthetic both for fashion and home décor – indoors and out.

And the parties she throws for family and friends are absolutely amazing!

Southern California Living

Tamera and I have many things in common. One of the predominate interests we share is our love for the aspirational California lifestyle – I’m in the north and Tamera’s in the south. I think between the two of us, we’ve got most of our fabulous state covered!

Tamera fully embraces the “So Cal” lifestyle and enjoys bike riding, kayaking, hiking and even surfing.

She explores restaurants, shops and hotels in Southern California, from Los Angeles to Palm Springs and Orange County to San Diego. Her gorgeous photos and interesting stories and tips make you want to pack a bag and hop on a plane!

Crown Yourself

If Tamera’s blog was about fashion and her fabulous Southern California lifestyle, that would certainly be wonderful enough, but she offers so much more. Tamera is willing to share openly about life’s ups and downs and her own journey as a mother raising and homeschooling three beautiful children to what brought her to blogging: a creative outlet to help ease the highs and lows of her children leaving the nest and beginning their adult lives.

Tamera’s authenticity, openness and willing to be vulnerable are special gifts I – and many others – treasure. Certainly these qualities are important reasons we became friends beyond fellow bloggers.

Tamera wants you to take time for you. She expanded her love for making and wearing gorgeous crowns – some created with silk flowers, others with beads, shells and even wood – into an important and meaningful symbolism in her Crowning Yourself series. In Tamera’s words:

“I see Crowning Ourselves as akin to self care, the kind that believes in taking the time to self invest and self reflect on our qualities that make each of us special in our own right. It’s a reminder to take the time to nourish your own soul – in order to give better to others. It’s not about being Queen…it’s about celebrating your own unique soul.”

How I Wear My Boho

Tamera was the first person to introduce the term and concept of self-care to me. Like nearly every woman I know, it’s something I struggle with. Tamera, through her creating, wearing and writing about Crowning Ourselves has helped me tune-in with my own needs for care, whether it’s taking time to exercise more, allowing myself to relax or just setting aside obligations for a bit to focus on me.

To say Tamera has a gorgeous family is certainly an understatement! It’s easy to tell on Tamera’s blog how important her family is to her.

I have had the pleasure of meeting two of her three beautiful and kind children and have also spent time getting to know her husband, Jeff.

Last year, Tamera’s gorgeous daughter, Ellis, was married. I can never get enough of these stunning photos from the wedding. See more of them here.

Tamera’s husband Jeff is a lovely and kind man who is so easy and enjoyable to be around. I see many similarities in Tamera and Jeff’s marriage to my own marriage. Like us, Tamera and Jeff have a true and solid partnership that is built on love, support, and shared interests.

They make such an attractive couple and when you’re in their presence, it’s clear they are deeply in love and truly enjoy spending time with one another. In fact, they recently celebrated their 29th wedding anniversary last fall. Congratulations, you two!

Tamera makes time to plan special dates with her husband on a regular basis as I do. Whether it’s checking out a new Orange County hotel or heading to the beach for one of Tamera’s magnificent beach picnics, I always love to see where the two of them are headed next.

Our Friendship

Tamera and I met in the summer of 2013. Bill and I planned a road trip to Southern California to explore and visit some friends. Tamera invited us to dinner at her home. This was not the first time I would meet a fellow blogger but it was the first time I would meet a fellow blogger in her home. I was very nervous, I admit. But the moment she opened the door and gave me a big hug, I knew the evening would be delightful and I was right.

Tamera’s home is a gorgeous representation of her aesthetic. She has turned every inch of her abode into a stylish, comfortable place for enjoyment.

We dined al fresco in her backyard, which overlooks a vast open space. Jeff grilled while he and Bill got acquainted and I sat down with Tamera to get to know her better.

At some point during the evening, I wore a crown of Tamera’s  – an unforgettable moment during a momentous evening and the official start of our friendship.

The following year, Tamera flew to Wine County for our Bloggers in Napa Valley getaway which you can read more about here.

We also shared the runway in the Stella Carakasi spring fashion event. It was such a treat to have that experience with her.

Tamera and Jeff spent a few extra days here in Wine Country. It was such a pleasure to show them around. We even had a chance to visit my friend Abi’s home and winery for a very special afternoon.

Thank you, Tamera ❤️

Tamera offers her many readers inspiration, aspiration, thoughts to ponder, fantastic travel ideas, DIY projects and plenty of fabulous eye candy.

She makes midlife not just okay but wonderful, exciting and fabulous! She is all about embracing life.

Tamera has taught me much since I first found her blog and became her friend:

~  Add your own style, flair and beauty to whatever you do – the big things and the little.

~ Give of yourself, but not at the expense of your own well-being. Caring for you not only benefits you, it benefits those you love and who love you.

~ Make the people and the things that matter the most a priority.

~ Surround yourself with beauty at every opportunity. If you can’t find it, create your own!

~ Own your age and be proud of your years.

With Valentine’s Day around the corner, a group of talented and creative Sonoma women decided to put together Valentine’s Day looks and include fashion and beauty ideas. Kelly Dolata of A Savvy Lifestyle asked me to join in the styling fun and of course I said yes, please!

A Savvy Lifestyle is a Wine Country lifestyle site, chock full of beautiful styling ideas, recommendations for local food, DIY projects, wine and travel, an events calendar and much more. Be sure to visit this beautiful blog. You are sure to be inspired!

Once the date was set for the shoot, I went right to work, carefully picking out my Valentine’s Day outfits. I chose outfits that I would wear on a date – day or night – and that fit my Wine Country lifestyle.

The morning of the shoot, I packed up my clothes and headed to the studio of Sonoma makeup artist, Beautycounter consultant and hairstylist Jenna Maze, who did my hair and makeup for the shoot.

We started by going through my outfits so Jenna could strategize my makeup and hair styles. Our friend and professional photographer Sarah Deragon of Sarah Deragon Photography took photos of the day from start to finish.

Jenna got right to work with my first look, which included a bright red tunic. Jenna decided this first makeup look would be my lightest. She would build from there, eventually ending up with a smokey eye and dark lip by the time we got to the final outfit.

Jenna used products from Beautycounter. This was my first experience with this well-known brand. I was excited to try it as I have heard so many great things about this makeup and skincare line, namely that it is verified by EWG which means I can feel good about using it.

For foundation, Jenna used two different shades of Tint Skin Foundation to match my skin tone: Linen and Sand. For my brown spots and under-eye circles, she applied the Touchup Skin Concealer Pen in Medium – 1. This concealer has a click brush, making application a breeze. I love the coverage both products gave me.

Jenna used the new Desert Sunrise Palatte on my cheeks and eyes, along with a navy blue liner and medium Brow Pencil. For my first outfit, she went with a red lip and applied Lip Sheer in Scarlet and Lip Gloss in Ruby. I loved my makeup look!

Once my hair and makeup were photo ready, we headed to Cornerstone Sonoma. We had a little cottage where I could change outfits, Jenna could freshen up and re-style my hair and makeup, and we could style gorgeous jewelry from BLACK & BROMSTAD to go with my looks. Lucky me!

BLACK & BROMSTAD, a personal jewelry concierge offering a high-level of customer service for luxury jewelry from high-end designers, brought a selection of pieces I could use to style my outfits. Kirsty Black and Nicole Bromstad have many years in the luxury jewelry and styling businesses. They teamed up to provide a specialized jewelry buying experience for their customers, offering personal consultations to help you find the pieces perfect for you or someone you love. To schedule an appointment, email Nicole at All the jewelry I am wearing is from BLACK & BROMSTAD.

Now for my Valentine’s Day outfits!

For my first look, I wore the most popular Valentine’s Day color, red!

I made my red high-low tunic the star of the show and styled it simply with black ponte leggings.

I wore black suede block-heel pumps with two delicate ankle straps (same shoe but in patent leather for spring) and carried my Louis Vuitton clutch.

Kirsty and Nicole suggested I wear a long gold necklace with a variety of gold, rose gold and diamond pendants along with some gorgeous diamond and gold earrings.

For my second look, we stopped by Chateau Sonoma at Cornerstone for a few photos. Chateau Sonoma is one of my very favorite Wine Country boutiques and has the most beautiful home decor, furniture, French antiques, home accessories and more. It’s my go-to when shopping for a special gift.

In this Valentine’s Day look, I bared a little bit of shoulder in a navy blue dress with shoulder cut-outs. I hope this trend sticks around for awhile because it’s an easy way to feel daring and playful without showing too much skin.

My Ralph Lauren Cold Shoulder dress is no longer available but I found one similar.

BLACK & BROMSTAD styled me with a Tahitian pearl necklace with a diamond-crusted closure. Such a gorgeous necklace!

For my third look, we stopped by Prohibition Spirits, a hip and fun distillery tasting room in Cornerstone Sonoma, to take some photos. I chose lace this time. Incorporating lace into your look for Valentine’s Day – for a casual daytime look or for a night time outfit – will add romance and femininity. I wore a black Lace top with bell sleeves with wide-legged jeans and black pumps.

BLACK & BROMSTAD chose large diamond hoops for me to wear so Jenna gave me a loose up-do to show them off. I also wore a delicate single diamond pendant necklace.

Jenna darkened my eye makeup a bit and added Lip Sheer in Twig, Lip Gloss in Fig.

My last look works for a romantic Valentine’s day picnic or a day spent exploring with my sweetheart. I wore a white Easy Going Sweater with a white camisole underneath and girlfriend jeans. For footwear, I went for flat and comfortable, yet stylish in a pair of gray suede booties. A playful ponytail styled by Jenna made my look fun and flirty.

My sweater had a swath of silver on it so I wore smaller diamond and platinum hoops with this final look.

Valentine’s Day is in winter after all, so a little extra layering is a must in Wine Country this time of year. This luxurious Peruvian Alpaca wool coat, with a shorter inside jacket and high neck, was just what I needed to stay warm.

With the high neck, Jenna thought a bun would be the best look. And who doesn’t love a good bun?

What a fun and fashionable day!

Thank you to Kelly and Emily of A Savvy Lifestyle, Sarah Deragon of Portraits to the People, Jenna Maze and Kirsty and Nicole of BLACK & BROMSTAD.

What a treat and an honor to collaborate with all of you!

What will you be wearing on Valentine’s Day?
