How I Wear My: Sequins

How I Wear My: Sequins

Happy December! It’s already been a month since our last (and first) How I Wear My…post where my friend Jill of Everything Just So and I both wore our Missoni for Target blue cardigans. We had so much fun working together, we decided to make it a monthly series and invite all our blogger friends and readers to join in.

This time, we are bringing out the sparkles with SEQUINS! Sequins are everywhere these days, have you noticed? You can’t walk through a department store or turn on the television without seeing sequins, sequins everywhere!

When Jill suggested sequins as our December item, I jumped at the idea. Why? Because I didn’t own any sequins. Not a single one. I was missing out on all the shiny fun.

Off I went in search of glittery sequins. I decided a jacket in a waist or hip length cut would be best for my shape. I wanted black,  although I rather liked the gold sequin garb I found. Ultimately I bought this bolero-style jacket at Macys listed for $89.00. With a sale going on and a coupon in hand, the price was $53.00

I really went out on a fashion limb and wore it with my white jeans…in late November! White jeans in fall and sequins all in one outfit? What’s happening to me?

On my feet, I chose Water Row by Clarks booties. Looking at the photos, I think I should have worn basic black pumps instead. The Water Rows look a bit heavy and perhaps too high. When I wear this outfit to an upcoming holiday party, I’ll try pumps.

The back of the jacket is a little shorter than the front. I think it makes it a little sassier; more like a bolero or a shrug and less like a cardigan.

For accessories, I went with a metal mesh evening bag from Payless Shoes ($6.00), a grey metallic fleur de lys ring Tori gave me last year for Christmas, and the ring and necklace Bill gave me for our wedding anniversary.

Why not get 2012 off to a glamorous start and join Jill and me for “How I Wear My: Statement Necklace” on January 3?

I am playing hostess next month and will feature photos of participants here on The Rich Life. Just send me a photo of yourself in your necklace by January 1st and I will include you, and your blog if you have one, in the next “How I Wear My…” post.

Be sure to click over to Jill’s to see all the beautiful participants in all their sequin-y glory!

Looking so smokin’ hot here, lady. I am in sequin heaven! XO, Jill

  2. December 1, 2011 / 6:54 am

I don’t own any sequins either…not sure where i would wear them. Your outfit looks very nice! I think pumps would dress it up a litte more too.

I will plan on joining you next month for the Statement necklace…it gives me a month to find one! ~~Bliss

  3. December 1, 2011 / 7:03 am

Lovely little sparkly jacket. You’re looking very trim & slim Adrienne!

  4. December 1, 2011 / 7:06 am

A++ 😉 But seriously, love the outfit. It looks great on you. I hadn’t thought to give sequins a try, but maybe I will!

  5. December 1, 2011 / 7:37 am

You look great! (and girl you have a nice bum in those pants) ♥

  6. December 1, 2011 / 7:37 am

You wear sequins well! Loving how you put it all together…..nicely done.

  7. December 1, 2011 / 8:03 am

Absolutely gorgeous girl! You always look so fabulous! I just bought some sequins yesterday for a holiday party I will be attending! Sill trying to figure out the rest of my ensemble though!

  8. December 1, 2011 / 8:14 am

    @Michelle P Me too….now that I’ve given them a whirl, I think they’re great!

  9. December 1, 2011 / 8:15 am

@jill815 I am so thrilled and thankful to be doing these posts with you. It is so very fun.

You look chic and beautiful in your sequin ensemble. I love the versatility of your sequin top. xoxo, A

  10. December 1, 2011 / 8:18 am

@steppingmywaytobliss I think that is why I didn’t have any sequins – where would I wear them?? I was a casual birthday party with some friends a few weeks back and one friend was wearing a jacket similar to mine only in gold with a tan and jeans. She looked SO cute. I think sequins don’t always have to be dressy.

I am thrilled you are joining us next month. I am on the hunt for a statement necklace! Yay!

  11. December 1, 2011 / 8:20 am

@hostess of the humble bungalow The white pants were a little risky – but I think it works. I don’t have any blue jeans that I really love on me – need to work on that – so the white jeans won out.

For a more formal look, I will probably wear a pencil skirt or dress underneath.

Thank you for joining us in our sequin fun! xoxo, A

  12. December 1, 2011 / 8:21 am

@Sulky kitten Thank you, SK! May I come to your house and give you a huge hug for that comment??

I have shunned sweets, carbs and such for the last month…haven’t lost much, but any little bit helps. Slow and steady gets the job done – that’s what I keep telling myself.

  13. December 1, 2011 / 8:22 am

@Mrs. Stranded Thank you, Mrs. S!

Sequins are fun to play around with and they are everywhere right now – you really can’t go shopping without seeing sequins. I hope you try them out! xo

  14. December 1, 2011 / 8:23 am

@Kristen Thank you, Kirsten. Can I hug you too for that comment? Those white jeans are my husband’s favorite – he wishes I looked like that in all my pants. Sadly, I don’t.

  15. December 1, 2011 / 8:25 am

@The enchanted home Thank you, Tina. It wasn’t easy to find an outfit – I must be honest about that. I really struggled to not look dated or “too much”. I am not used to wearing so much sparkle!

  16. December 1, 2011 / 8:28 am

@~ B. Oh, how funny! Sequins were on your radar too!
I found getting an outfit together a bit of a challenge. I’m just not used to wearing them! Have fun at your holiday party!

  17. December 1, 2011 / 8:30 am

Adrienne I adore your jacket. It is the perfect touch and I would even wear it with a great pair of jeans!!

Please Come and enter the 1st of Twelve Days of Holiday giveaways! It is stunning!

Love the bolero, love the jeans. White denim in November? Why not?

    xoxox —

  19. December 1, 2011 / 9:01 am

I was going to mention it on your yesterday’s post, but decided to hold off, and there it was again today…your fabulous and perky little booty! I love it! Do you do any particular exercises (lunges, squats, etc.) or just naturally blessed? =)

  20. December 1, 2011 / 9:04 am

Love this jacket!! Would love to find one exactly like it! Let us know when the statement necklace event is…I’M In again!!

  21. December 1, 2011 / 9:13 am

@Karena Once I locate a great pair of jeans, I am going to wear this jacket with them. Great jeans are hard to find!

I will be sure to check out your give away! Thanks for letting me know about it!

  22. December 1, 2011 / 9:14 am

@Tish Jett You are right, Marsi! Why not. I think I may wear them again this weekend just to be daring. xoxo, A

  23. December 1, 2011 / 9:16 am

@Jessica Oh, Jessica! You are too sweet! My derriere is really nothing special. It’s the pants – 90% pants and 10% junk in the trunk. I have a pair of skinnies that do exactly the opposite thing to my rear – flat as a pancake and wide. Not a good look. My husband detests them.

Thank you, Jeeisca. You made my day, girl!

  24. December 1, 2011 / 9:17 am

    @Pam @ over50feeling40 Do you have a Macys in S.A.? It’s an I.N.C. brand jacket .

January 3rd is our next post on statement necklaces. I am thrilled you have joined us in this series. Thank you, Pam! xo

  25. December 1, 2011 / 9:41 am

Fabulous jacket!!! I love it with the white jeans, and predict you’ll get a LOT of wear out of it.

  26. December 1, 2011 / 11:35 am

I too, love it with the white jeans. Oddly, I only like sequins worn casually. Don’t they make the same brand as your white jeans in blue denim, since they fit you so great?

  27. December 1, 2011 / 11:54 am

    I think you look great.

Garnet Hill has some wine and grey cords that I”m flipping through right now I bet that would be neat with it, too.

I like what you put together.

  28. December 1, 2011 / 2:15 pm

@déjà pseu I hope I end up wearing it often. I have two parties so far – will wear the jacket to both. Then New Years eve if we go anywhere. It’s a bit of a relief to finally have something on hand to wear to parties.

  29. December 1, 2011 / 2:17 pm

Love the white jeans with it–very unexpected!
I ‘ll be there at the next get together too!

  30. December 1, 2011 / 2:19 pm

@kathy peck I like sequins casually better too.
I searched for the same BR jeans in blue with no luck. But after I read your comment, I popped over the BR again and found a new bootcut style that might work for me. I ordered them and will see if they fit and flatter. I have such a hard time with jeans due to my height. None of my current jeans are at all flattering.

  31. December 1, 2011 / 2:41 pm

@Hines-Sight Yes! Wine and grey both would look great with my jacket. I wish Garnet carried my length in pants. Good ideas on the colors, Leigh! Thank you. xo

  32. December 1, 2011 / 2:46 pm

@fashionoverfifty I even surprised myself by selecting the white jeans. You look so vibrant in your blue sequins on Jill’s blog. I am looking forward to seeing what you have for the statement necklace next month!

  33. December 1, 2011 / 3:15 pm

How good do you make those white jeans look???? And I love the sequins, I need more in my life too.

I will definitely send photos of statement necklaces, thanks so much for your kind comments! Following you too now!

    Catherine x

P.S. are you sure you’re over 40…? hard to believe 🙂

  34. December 1, 2011 / 6:05 pm

You look gorgeous! Love the jacket – only wished we lived closer to each other so I could borrow it : )

  35. December 1, 2011 / 8:07 pm

@Catherine @ Not Dressed As Lamb Hi Catherine,

I am elated to have found you through Visible Monday. I love your chic style and am thrilled you stopped by and followed!

Statement necklaces should be lots of fun. There are such possibilities!

    xo, A

  36. December 1, 2011 / 8:08 pm

@what’s her bucket I laugh now about how much we used to share clothing, shoes, jewelry, makeup, etc. when we were teenagers. It was actually me borrowing from you – or your mom. I wish we lived closer too, for so many reasons..sharing clothes being one. xoxo. A

  37. December 1, 2011 / 9:28 pm

You DO look smokin’ hot in your outfit! No worries about wearing white this time of year, I just finished a book by style expert Lloyd Boston and he said the old rules no longer apply. White jeans can be worn all year round.

    Another savvy Macy’s shopper…I’ve got competition! 😉

I still haven’t worn the black sequin tank Amanda got me for Xmas last year. I’m hoping we get invited to a holiday party soon! It seems that some years a lot of our neighbors have parties and then other years not at all. I can always wear it Xmas Eve.

  38. December 2, 2011 / 12:31 am

You are beautiful – adore your makeup, so nice and subtle, your sequin jacket paired with those jeans. Very Chic indeed. And I especially love your hair – so radiant! Have a nice weekend.xx

  39. December 2, 2011 / 4:34 am

you look great. I only have a couple of sequined things, but loads of sparkly beaded items, does that count? I go to lots of community events with my husband(he does the charity auction bit)and they get a fair bit of wear. but being a small community it is hard not to wear the same thing to loads of events.

  40. December 2, 2011 / 6:52 am

@LRS4AMANDA I’ll have to look for that book by Mr. Boston. I saw a photo of a look I want to try: white jeans with a winter white cable sweater, tucked in just enough in the from to see a black belt. It sounds weird, but it is so chic! I think I may try it this weekend.

Macy’s really does have a hold on me with all their great coupons. I rarely buy anything full-price anymore -except for makeup, which you can never get a break on there.

I hope you get to wear your top a couple of times this season. With your warm weather, a tank is a smart choice.

    xoxo, A

  41. December 2, 2011 / 7:20 am

@mummaduckaSequins, beads, anything shiny – it’s all pretty much the same to me as long as it’s sparkly! I am sure I will be wearing my jacket plenty enough for the same people to see me in it more than once. Much more than once! I like to get a lot of mileage out of things so this item will be around for quite a while.

How fun for you to go to so many events. Is your husband an auctioneer?

  42. December 2, 2011 / 8:40 am

Lloyd Boston’s book is titled “Before You Put That On” and I checked it out from the library. I never got around to finishing it until I got sick last week!

Unfortunately I cannot wear the tank alone, it’s a little too clingy and the material in the back is not sequins, a real thin fabric. But it looks great with my black jacket!

  43. December 2, 2011 / 10:08 am

Wowza! Sexy momma! Those jeans look pretty hot on you…I can see why it’s your hub’s fav. Love the outfit!

  44. December 3, 2011 / 9:46 am

You look so thin and sparkly! The jacket really matches your personality. And I love that you matched a retro-50’s cut of jacket with white jeans — so modern and casually elegant!

I’m scarred of sequins, and I don’t know why. After I read your post I went online to look for a sparkly sweater. I found one on ebay, but I’m still not ready to make a plunge. Maybe I should confine my sparkles to a diamond solitare necklace…
